Just wanted to post this to counter MUCH doom and gloom

After 13months of being out of work , I got offered 2 jobs this week , and accepted one of them obviously... Its a great role , and a step up from my last job...

So I know its tough out there , but keep hanging on in there , there are opportunities !

    Congratulations!

Just a suggestion but maybe you could give an idea into what the job role or industry is and what you did with your CV/applications/interview prep?

It may provide some help to others looking for a similiar position.

    Best of luck.

    Great idea !!

I am from a Dell and a Microsoft background...sales , and account management... Had been struggling to find a "decent" role , as either companies that fitted my job type were not hiring or I was " too" experienced ..

So after months of applications , I reviewed my CV... Took a more detailed approach in the CV... Started applying DIRECTLY ONLY to companies... Recruitments agents IMHO are a waste of time !!

When I got called for the interviews ( One a Storage hardware company and the other a online payment facilitator ) I did some very detailed prep... When I attended the interviews and assessment days , they could tell I wanted the job by my knowledge and abiltiy to articulate my past experience and how that would assist them...

My best advice... APPLY DIRECTLY TO COMPANIES AND REVIEW YOUR CV

    regards

    Hey surfing,

Can i ask when you said "applied directly to companies" do you mean you applied for specific opportunities that were advertised or by way of speculative applications?

Thanks and well done by the way :D

thanks Seafields...Direct to companies , on a speculative basis...And here is why... Because they tell recruitment guys they are not hiring to avoid the blitzkrieg of CVs.... But usually multinationals ( Generally speaking ) have a cyclical hiring trend....

    just my 2cents

Cheers for that. I haven't sent out any speculative apps in awhile but may just do a bit of research next week and do up a few. I'm a graduate so have been applying to the few opportunities advertised in my area but there haven't been many.

Anyway your story has inspired so will try again and thanks for the info. :)

Two in a week is always the way :). When I was looking last year I spent about 3 months looking then got an offer on a Tuesday for a low paid 3 month contract and then on the Wednesday got an offer for a 2 year contract that was better paid than my previous job and nearly double the other offer.

A couple of years ago when I was looking I got 3 offers in the space of a week too.
