Speed Cameras

I have a tendency to drive rather fast. I know I shouldn't but I do. However I have never received a speeding ticket from a speed camera.

A friend told me he got one recently and I was shocked as I though they were a myth inspired by Gaybo and his ilk. If they did exist surely I would be off the road at this stage. Then I discovered this site http://www.irishspeedtraps.com/ .
Now I know most of these are mobile ones (yellow) but some are static and I have often passed through these areas at high speed and with gay abandon. No problems.

Have any boardies got done with a speed fine from a speed camera?

I'm sorry, I can't take you seriously with a username like that.

speed traps were fairly common a few years back .... people eventually caught on to the many "loopholes" with the legal system in relation to paying or getting convicted - best of my knowledge they closed most if not all of the loopholes.

pay the fine and drive slower - is my advice.

I've only ever been "caught" speeding by members of the Gardai with their hairdryer guns (at the time I accepted it ...paid and accepted the points) .... I've only been caught speeding twice - I dont do it too often.

in fairness - its not the rank and file gardai's fault they have to do the speed (money) traps ....its the higher up people who only look at the revenue it brings in.

isin't there only 3 cameras to be shared between the fixed location boxes anyway, how many of them, 15?

Sorry but you can't post in AH when there is a forum that, in my opinion, in better suited.

It will shortly be done by a private company. I think they are contracted to install about 50 fixed cameras. You'll still have the Gardaí and mobile units too.

Is it worth tendering to find someone to go around and burn the cameras out once they are put up, or shall we just leave it freelance as it is at the moment?

I think the fixed cameras are technically limited to capturing speeds under 180 mph.

I've only been caught by hairdryers but when over in England I see them fixed cameras everywhere.
If the cameras turn private there'll be a hell of a lot more of them as the company will want to show a profit.

The fixed cameras are hidden as well on traffic lights and traffic signs/gantries and lots of mobile cameras on police cars and bikes. Much better, more modern cameras.
The day will come when private operators will plaster these all over the place here. Maximum profit.

We'll see how profitable they are when they start getting burned out as soon as they are installed.
