just wondering about the idea of launching an independent album
anyone got any advice - presume do a gig and bring a few copies to sell etc but whats the follow up?
    - alert media?
    - posters?

anyone got any thoughts they'd like to share?

This is a HUGE question! :)

There are so many ways of doing this - all right and all wrong. What is your aim in releasing the album? Maybe start there and then look at how you can achieve your goals.

For instance, I was reading there The Cast of Cheers released their album as a free download and were saying that this worked for them as they didn't expect people to buy an album by a band they hadn't heard of. They are now getting serious press, high profile fans etc. Their aim was to get their name out there and they have done that and then some!

If your aim is to make money, then that's a whole different kettle of fish.

If it's press exposure, you may want to look into music PR firm although I think if you have the time and savvy much of this can be done yourself.
