Sony VAIO VGN-NS10L Dead as a doornail

I've been trying to revive a laptop for my friend, it's a VAIO VGN-NS10L.
It just shutdown and hitting the power button lights up the power light, turns on the hard drive and processor fan (can hear and I've seen them) and that's about it. No POST beeps and nothing on the screen.

    What I've tried:
Remove battery + Power lead, held down power button for 30 seconds to do a static discharge.
Plugged in external monitor - no image.
Removed both ram modules, tried to boot with none, tried to boot with one at a time.
Removed HD and checked it in a caddy, works fine.
Reseated everything, including processor - no joy

I'm down to either the motherboard or the processor. Finding the actual name/type of the mobo is hard, I think it's an MBX-202. Does anyone know where I could get a secondhand one of these? I've only seen them for around the 200 euro mark so far. Also what's the best way to test the processor? I think it's socket p (or uMFPGA), can I test it in a regular desktop motherboard? I don't have any socket P laptop's to test in.

If I knew it was definitely the mobo I'd order it but I'd like to see if I can verify the processor first.

Anything I've missed? Or any advice? Laptop is just over a year old :)

    Hi brasher,

You've just described my problem down to a tee.

My model is a PCG-7154M. I removed the board and found the model number printed on the other side, it's a MBX-202, M791 Main Board.

    Did you ever get sorted?

Thanks Phil, but I've only about 100 euro budget to repair this thing. I've seen a few refurb'd mobo's for that price but they go very quick.

The ebay/new one's are all 200 + and it doesn't make sense to spend that much on this laptop when for not a huge amount more you can get a new one.

I have had the EXACT same problem as you, everything you described, i had tried, and nothing,
Have you noticed that one f the RAM Modules is upside down?

I removed that one, and swapped the RAM around in the slot that is the 'normal' way up,

First one didn't work, so i tried the RAM module that i had removed from the 'upside down' slot.

It works fine and dandy now.. :-)
I had searched all over the internet for this problem, and i was being told it was everything from Motherboard and CMOS battery, to the LCD inverter cable..
I hope your problem is similar. and have found this solution useful. :-)
