Have I just bricked my iPhone?

So my 3Gs ran out of battery this morning and I had to run blackrain again to jailbreak it (I'm on 3.1.2).

For some strange reason when I started Blackra1n.exe my anti-virus detected a trojan in it (never did before), despite ignoring it, it wouldn't run.

So I re-downloaded it from blackra1n.com but same problem. It won't run, keep getting trojan errors. I disabled the anti-virus but the programs still wont run, now I get errors saying it is not a valid Win32 application???

I found another site (http://www.iphone-hacks.com/iphone-downloads/file/213) with it on it, downloaded that and it ran fine. But when the phone tried to restart - it didn't.

Now it won't start at all. I've tried holding the power and home button for 10 seconds - nothing. It's not starting up!

Have I just bricked my iPhone?

What happens if you connect the data cable / some power?

Weird alright , by disabling your anti-virus should resolve the issue ?

Cut the blackra1n.exe from its current location and past it here:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.

Run it from its new location and let me know .

Nothing happens when I connect the data/power cable...though iTunes recognises it as being in recovery mode.

mixednuts...there's no Apple application support folder? Just a mobile device folder. Tried it from there but it's not running at all.

Chrome was downloading it as a 0kb file for some reason, but firefox got it properly. But it just won't run...the RC1 version of it that managed to run first time does though :wtf:

I'm terrified that I'll lose this jailbreak and unlock. Without the unlock the iPhone is useless to me

(I read somewhere it's possible to restore an already jailbroken/unlocked 3Gs with a custom IPSW for 3.1.3 and retain the jailbreak/baseband...is that true?)

Nope. I'm a close follower of the jailbreak scene and know there's none for 3.1.3. I used the blackrain site. And the one mentioned above, which had RC1 of blackra1n.exe.

Seems to be stuck in DFU mode? Any ideas?

EDit: I guess my problem was using RC1 of blackrain.

Can you run blackra1n , whats the result ?

When you hook it up to iTunes whats it telling you ?

Phone is completely blank. Power button does nothing. Home+power button for 10 seconds does nothing. Constant blank screen. The RC1 version of blackrain that actually runs for me just says waiting for iphone.

When I open iTunes it detects an iPhone in recovery mode, tells me to restore. Seems to be stuck in DFU mode so?

OK .

1. ...Are you sure your phone has battery power ? If no, leave on charge for 30mins and try blackra1n again , if yes move on ...

2. You could be stuck in a "recovery mode loop" ..heres how to fix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUC1t11JDMA

3.)If that does not work then you may need a restore:eek: (not officially ) if you have your ECID shsh stored with CYDIA you can use this guide .

Thanks. I don't have the SHSHs on file unfortunately. Can you read this page (http://www.ilikemyiphone.com/2010/02/09/download-custom-firmware-3-1-3-ipsw-jailbreak-activate-unlock-iphone-3g-3gs-mac-windows/) and tell me what you think?

If I'm reading it correctly, I can update to 3.1.3 using those custom IPSWs and retain both my jailbreak and baseband (since I'm already jailbroken/unlocked)? (and then use that video above to get out of any itunes errors)

You need to read , read , and read again the instructions and warnings especially this part

• Caution #1 : A restore is going to wipe the iPhone clean. Hence, please backup your iPhone using iTunes and then proceed.
• SUPER CAUTION : iPhone 3GS Owners, please read this thoroughly before proceeding further. If you are already at 3.1.3, this is not going to work. If you rely on blacksn0w for unlock (if you have 5.11.07 baseband, you are better off without 3.1.3 for now.
• If you bought your iPhone recently (if it has the new bootrom, please stop right here). If the 4th, 5th digits are greater than 39, it is more than likely that it has the new bootrom.

If you are happy you meet the criteria it seems like a good source to go with .

Had you a tethered jailbreak before it got bricked? If so you probably have a newer version iPhone.

Hopefully there will be a new jailbreak out soon. I had the same problem as you were describing. I just upgraded to 3.1.3. I wasnt to put out at the time. I am starting to miss the satnav apps now though.

Could do with it this weekend. Have alot of driving in places i am not too familiar with.

Yeah I had a tethered jailbreak. But it didn't bother me. But I need the unlock...if the above method doesn't work I'll have no choice but to sell the phone because an unlock for the baseband in 3.1.3 will not come out until the iPhone 4G is released.

I'm sick that this has happened!

See the reason it didnt bother me to upgrade is i have an unlocked iPhone 3GS. I bought it Speakeasy with O2 at christmas used €150 cred and then got it unlocked.

Where did you get the iPhone?

the new jailbreak will be out before the iphone 4g, os 4.0 is out in 2 months
lesson learnt people, back up your shsh to saurik server, and dont get caught out, theres no excuse not to

The new jailbreak will be out at the end of the month BUT not an unlock for the baseband on 3.1.3 - that will have to wait until the intro of the new iPhone.

I tried the above steps. Guess what? It didn't work. Getting an iTunes error 1600 (and iReb doesn't work for 3Gs phones). This is the biggest pain in the hole. This morning the iPhone was working grand now it's stuck in firmware limbo.

All I can do is update to 3.1.3 and stick it on ebay :mad:

Yes it does , I used it myself when i got stuck .

Are you sure your shsh files are not stored on CYDIA ?

It was harder to deny the "make my life easier" request than accept .
It would have prompted you on the initial CYDIA install , but also everytime when you opened CYDIA (on the home screen).
I have helped a couple of guys , on each occasion the poster did not know they had stored their shsh only to find they had .

How did you get iReb to work? There is no 3Gs to click on to help get past iTunes errors?

I'm fairly sure I'm not on Saurik's server. I did however get the 3.1.3 files onto it.

Would you not just change networks and keep the phone? If I upgraded mine firmware by accident I'd happily go to o2 before selling my phone to downgrade to some crap Nokia :pac:

I agree, just get a speak easy sim. After you've used €150 credit. You can factory unlock the phone and you want have this problem again?

O2 don't offer any pre-pay internet packages. Three give me 1Gb allowance per month for a tenner, and a good deal on texts and calls if I top up by €20. Internet is essential for me for the iPhone.

Anyway I now have a nice 3.1.3 paperweight.

Ahhh maybe I will port over, I have too much invested in this handset. Apps, GPS kits, important documents. Jailbreak being released this month would help a lot. Internet would cost a fortune, but I guess I can port back to three when there is an unlock.

Unless you have a 3G & not a 3Gs.... 3G's can't back up to Saurik...
