Dental Work done in stages????

I have to get work done on my bottom 3 teeth. One is broken and the other two are in a bad state. My dentist said I can not get them done on medical card now so I asked him how much would it cost .... he quoted €800 per tooth or there about. Would it be possible to get this work done in stages??? My dentist said that I should get the 3 done together but really can't afford that.
    Can anyone advise me????

Can he not offer you an affordable payment plan? Any dentist worth their salt realises that not everyone can afford to fork out 100s of euro in one go; if he can't come up with an affordable payment plan find a dentist that will.

    Hi

as far as I know the med card scheme is still in operation, the Dept of Health are to report sometime in next week or 2

If your teeth are in a bad way they mway need work such as a crown that is not covered on the Med Card scheme anyway.

It could be possible to do in stages but would be cheaper for you and more convenient to do in 1 go and would probably give better outcome

margam there are a couple of parts to this answer.
Firstly, given the price you were quoted, your dentist believes you require crowns. For these to be necessary your 3 teeth must be very heavily filled/fractured and you may be at risk of losing them if they are left in their present condition. Crown preperation and fit requires considerable clinical time and laboratory costs so staged payments maybe difficult to negotiate. Also from a cosmetic aspect, individual crowns that are placed side by side when made at different times, even if they are supposed to be made from the the same shade of porcelain always look slightly different so the cosmetic result may be compromized.
My advice is that if you cannot afford it now, wait until you can, I tell my patients "get it done once, get it done right", that way there is no regrets later.
