So, do you think Apple's shiny new gadget will revolutionise the computer industry and become an essential piece of equipment, or is it just a pointless gimmick?

iPad gives images of a Maxi Pad

I think Apple have a name for themselves now, so they plan on bringing out your average new technology bits to make a bit more money as people may now buy due to the reputation of such iPod's.

Pointless but I'd still like one..

It's a gimpy stumble of a step forward, but a step nonetheless.

iPad? Sounds like a new sanitary towel with a micro chip or something to tell you when it's had it's fill.

    No, that's the iJam-rag.

It doesn't even have wings FFS.

It is by no means revolutionary TBH. It's not even particularily useful.

Sure, didn't our lord stop on the cross to put his ipod on...

Ha. I wonder what he's listening to, probably something by the Carpenter's.

Considering how awkward it is to do anything other than download mostly useless apps to an ipod touch, I'll avoid this too.

No disk use? I can't put my ebooks THAT I'VE ALREADY BOUGHT on it? We'll see Mr. Ipod. 3 hours later I won. But at what cost?

The Apple fanboiz are going to need a pack mule to cart all this hardware around.

A nice bit of Kit but too locked into itunes store

Personally, I think it's stupid as **** and a waste of money considering you can buy decent laptops that size for basically the same price, maybe a small bit more and have a lot more available at your fingertips.

Plus you wouldn't look like a total gob****e as well.

It might be useful as a replacement for netbooks or something. I could see it being more popular with the general public, but I'm not sure it would become popular tech geek types, as it's too much a closed system.

Having said that, a laptop with a touch screen would be cool.

If people start taking these out in public using them to watch videos or use the internet, I can see many unhappy ex-Ipad owners.

This is what you do with 'em.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,706 ✭✭✭Voodu Child

I don't really know why anyone would want one.

It doesnt really do any of the things you'd expect from a computer, meaning you'd still need a proper PC/laptop. So if you've already got a computer, what do you use this for? Surfing the net? Seems a bit expensive for that. Reading ebooks? Not on a glossy, backlit screen you're not. Watching movies? Won't play any of your Xvid or MKVs.

I looked at all the advertising stuff, and I still genuinely don't see where it fits in. Its like they spent ages designing a product that nobody actually wanted....except of course its Apple so all the fanboys lap it up regardless.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

It's a practical joke-cum-bet hatched by the Apple top brass.

If more than 400,000 fanboys snap up a piece of ill-advised superfluous kit, the rest of them have to buy Steve Jobs his Christmas dinner.

for me its a pure gagdet.usless and expensive.but i understand the point of view of marketing manager from Apple - put **** in shiny, stylish chassis, gibe a high price and dont forget to give away hundrets to journalists:)and after bombarding people with och and ach informationmost of you are prepared to pay the price for nothing.

    How innovative and new

A phone from 5 years ago had multi tasking, it's a bit much selling a tablet without multi tasking and then expecting people to wait for an update.

Anytime anyone starts talking to me about the ipad I just shout "no Ipad!". If they hang around to try and explain it just keep shouting Iiipad as if your telling them that it's you that is the pad and nothing else.

    Do you Pad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,467 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Well I'd like one... just because its nice touch screen web browser, lots of apps, good battery life, fast

but if its 500€+ its too expensive for the moment, closer to 300€ might be tempted

Even worse is that the OS it has - 'OS 3' - is actually a fully multitasking system at the core. It's artificially restricted by Apple out of performance/security concerns.

That, and they can make more money by releasing that feature later down the line

Oh I know, sadly I'm not going to be in the new laptop market for a while. Maybe they'll be ubiquitous by that time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,328 ✭✭✭cafecolour

To me it seems like Jobs in intent on repeating the mistakes of his past - creating a closed system, and where the Apple OS is fixed on only Apple hardware.

That doomed the Mac os to a minority shared compared to Windows, and it may well do the same for the iphone/ipad compared to Android/Windows Mobile.

Apple fanboyism at its most irritating. It's a giant iPod touch, not even a giant iPhone.

    Also, stumbled on this today.
