I am trying to decide what is a better FTA satellite/DTT solution.

    - using a pvr receiver like the Edision Argus mini 2 in 1 IP Combo HD Satellite/DTT Receiver
    or
    - using a HTPC

I understand that you can't get the series link functionality when using free sat with a receiver but can you get it if you have a HTPC running windows 7?

Any thoughts that may help me decide?

Series link works on Windows Media Center.

To get a HTPC up and running, you need a PC, a tv tuner card that takes dvb-s and dvb-t inputs. A remote control and receiver would be handy too.

Setting Windows Media Center up in Windows 7 is very easy too.

So if you don't mind the extra expense and time consumption, then HTPC is great.
