Ford Mondeo question

two months ago I acquired a 2008 Mondeo Titanium with a 2 litre Duratec HD engine after trying unsuccessfully to demolish a stone wall with my previous car during the post Christmas freeze. The last 2 litre Ford I owned was a Sierra, and that had a timing belt. With this new car there is no mention in the handbook of whether there is a timing belt or a timing chain, so I assume it's the latter. I have driven a number of 2 litre Mondeos in the last few years, but only as hired cars in the UK on business, so I never had any reason to make a study of them. Can any of you guys enlighten me, and if it has a timing belt (hopefully not-- they're a pain in the a**s) what the change intervals are supposed to be?

I'm pretty sure it's a chain in your car - it wouldn't need to be changed unless it started getting noisy.

The have a belt and a chain.

The belt runs from the crank to the cam and the chain then connects the 2 cams.

The belt is due every 125k miles(200.000kms) or 10 years. The chain should last the life of the engine.

Thanks for the replies guys. If the belt has to be replaced every 10 years, I wonder why they don't say so in the handbook -- or perhaps they don't expect the car to last that long? Planned obsolescence??:D

This kind of question is more suited to the main forum

Don't mean to offend the OP I'm just making a note for future reference :)

Anyway it's been answered so I'll just lock it
