Car repairs

My 4 year old Audi is acting strange for the last few months, randomly stuttering when the accelerator is pressed at any speed. This is accompanied with a strange noise. I brought it to my main dealer who replaced the flywheel and then told me the clutch was 80% gone so I got that done too. They "hoped" this would solve the problem.

It didn't, I'm down over a grand and if I go back there, they'll continue swapping parts into it and I pay parts and labour costs.

What rights do I have here? Surely if it's broken and it's in their hands to fix it, I shouldn't get it back broken with an offer for them to perform trial and error on it....at my expense

What engine type is it in the Audi? Will help narrow down what the issue might be.

The dealer is trying to fix the issue with the car, but they are under no obligation as the car is outside of warranty.

IMO the dealer should at least give you a clear indication of whether they are sure of a fix or whether they are trying something which they feel is worthwhile.
As far as I know there is a special tool for checking wear in the flywheel. They should be pretty damn certain of the fix. Simply sticking in new stuff & getting no improvement is not good enough in this case IMO. Fair enough if it was a tricky electronic issue but this is good old mechanical stuff.

That was a fairly major job and a grand was quite reasonable, especially for a main dealer as one would expect 16 or 18 hundred Euro for this service.

That would be great if the job was actually fixed, but correct diagnostics is very important, it could be as simple as a fuel pump and I am surprised the dealer went for a fairly major repair off the bat.

I'd love to get my car back fixed, but there is no law governing this, the only come back is where a job is done and that job is faulty ~ there is no real come back when the job done [whilst beneficial] was not the correct job to fix the issues.

That is in a bona fida case and not where one is scammed ~ and for a main dealer's I'd not suspect this.

Try and get a few friends to describe the problem in more detail ~ diagnostics is often the hard part, the monkey work of changing out the parts is the 'relatively' easy part.

I do think there should be some sort of cover for motorists though ~ in a main dealer I had them change a clutch for my van as they were the specialists and only slightly more expensive than my corner shop garage would do for this precise job ~ but would they check out the van while they had it ~ they nearly bit my head off and said I'd have to book it in again ... so yes, things can be poor.

The car is an A6 2.0TDI.

Thanks for the comments so far, it's good to know that I got a decent price. I've been told by another guy that it could be the solenoid on the turbo that's acting up, I know little or nothing about the mechanics of cars so I'm open to opinions! I appreciate it's a tough one to identify, especially when the VAG diagnostics software comes back clean
