Customer satisfaction levels on Northern Ireland's trains and buses have hit an all-time high, it was revealed.

More than three-quarters of passengers said they were happy with the service as the rising price of fuel makes the cost of taking the car more prohibitive.

The vast majority of Metro, Ulsterbus and Northern Ireland Railways (NIR) journeys were on time.

Operator Translink spokesman Ciaran Rogan said: "Excellent public transport is good for the economy, the health and well-being of the local community and helping people to get to where they need to be.

"These results show that Translink's approach - together with the investment made in public transport - is getting it right for everyone."

A survey found 82% of Metro passengers said they were satisfied. At Ulsterbus it was 84% and NIR 78%.

All three services exceeded the punctuality target. Some 95% of Metro services were on time, 98% of Ulsterbus and 97% of NIR.

Mr Rogan added: "This is another great set of results for Metro, Ulsterbus and NI Railways. We're delivering a high quality service and our customers are telling us they are very happy.

"That's why millions more people have chosen to travel with us in the past couple of years."

I wonder if their punctuality targets are like IE for the DART, anything up to 5 mins late is on time

ten minutes late is ok for irish rail and this is only at the terminus stations so a train can be 30minutes late in portlaoise but does not count!

also if they got a true record of customer satisfaction they would be forced to do something about their wasteful ways!

I always wonder who they ask in these customer Satisfaction Surveys.

Do they wait until the trains and buses are packed with 'doddery auld women' on the pass who think "ah its great - love" when asked about anything. :D

They've moved to 5 minutes now, at least on the Dart. Which is still unacceptable when the things only come at 15 minute intervals at peak times, but there you go. I didn't realise it only applied at the termini, doesn't surprise me though.

Does anyone know if Irish Rail counts trains that are early as being on time? The only thing worse than them being late is seeing them disappear around the bend when you arrive on time. It's a much rarer event than the lateness mind you.

The posters on the Dart and in some stations e.g. Connolly say 5. They made a big hoo ha about changing to 5 a year or so ago, "in response to customer requests," as if 5 were perfectly acceptable on what is supposed to be a high frequency commuter service in a European capital city.

I don't know about the intercity or longer commuter routes.

well if you are getting a connection chances are that will also be delayed longer than the first train so passengers will be got to their destination some time!
