    Hi all,

I’ve been a regular reader of boards.ie for years but never posted and only joined today.
Id like some advice and make sure am not making the biggest mistake of my life:D

Currently, I have a Phone/Broadband package with Talktalk, the cable from Broadworks and also a Sky dish (with Sports, Movies, the whole lot)
Its costing me a fortune, and Talktalk and Broadworks are criminal organisation as far as I am concerned.

I’m considering switching to the package from UPC (TV/Phone/Broadband)
Looks like brilliant value for money (better broadband and more sports Channels with Setanta and ESPN) but as I used to be a customer with NTL 6 years ago and wasn’t the happiest bunny with them, id like to have some feedback from current NTL customers.

I don’t expect the best customer service (I have yet to find a company with a good one anyway) but if the service is reliable and i only have to deal with them once in a blue moon, I can live with that.

    So, would you do it?
Your feedback is very much appreciated!
    Cheers

    Merku

I have them for TV and broadband. Their TV isn't as good as Sky. The broadband is excellent. I would switch, if you can.

I have TV/Broadband with them and never had any issues. I would definately switch to them :)

Likewise, have their HD pvr & broadband. I've rang them a few times enquiring about their services & only once had a bad sales rep. The other times found them quite good. Picture quality is better with this box, never had any problems with it & found their bband far better than Eircom.

If you're into football try get the HD box... World Cup in on BBC HD, Eurosport HD and ESPN HD ;)

UPC have come a long way from the old NTL. Go for it.

Have the TV and broadband. Never had problems with either. The broadband is great and is super fast. I would love to be able to get the their HD but it is not available in my area yet especially with the world cup coming!

I have to say, its very tempting :D
But its an extra 15quid a month and the whole point of switching is to save money... Dunno if i can swing that with the wife :D

Feedback seems good so far, gives me a bit more confidence to go ahead with it, thanks ;)

We switched to UPC earlier this year for the same reason. 90E for Sky we just couldn't afford it anymore - even switching between packages and trying to bring down the cost didn't really help and we missed out channels we liked. So I made the decision to go with UPC much to the dismay of the rest of my family.

The only issue I have had was on the second day where the signal was very distorted but that was sorted the next day (they came out to investigate) and we have had no problems since
I love having all the UTV/BBC 3&4 all on the one list (if you get me).
ESPN and Setanta show the football for himself.
My daughter still has about 10 music channels to choose from and documentaries and similar channels are all still there also.

The only con is we can only record one programme at a any one time and I hate the remote plus the overall TV guide screen is a bit odd. But for 34E per month - I'm very happy it's affordable.

It took a couple of weeks but the rest of them have stopped moaning now.

Broadband is not with us yet another year or so - will be loving that I hope. and we currently don't have a landline.

Happy with the switch a couple of months on.

You can take the basic HD package (same price as the standard pack with recorder, €25 IIRC) & you get BBC HD included free. So you can watch the World Cup in HD on that.

You can record two but you have to put the box into standby..

No it's not. The World Cup will in HD on BBC HD only if you UPC. RTÉ, BBC and ITV are the rights holders for live games in Britain and Ireland. Nobody else.

There is football on the other sports channels tho eg. EPL games on ESPN & Setanta. ITV HD has WC rights but thats with Sky or freesat IIRC.

Yes but the wording of your post suggested that BBC, Eurosport and ESPN would be showing the World Cup in HD

And? You already pointed out that it wasn't on those 2 channels?

    Is it unreliable?

UPC broadband is terrible and drops periodically along with the digital tv signal just stopping every now and again.

Unfortunately we are in an apartment complex that forces us to use the service or would leave them.

Customer service dont have a clue and have set up accounts for two different people on our address and the entire knowledge of the techincal teams appears to be a 'factory reset'. All in all UPC are atrocious and wouldnt touch them with a barge pole if we had a choice.

Just taken there, UPC is not crap at all, This would be peak times aswell, would easily hit the full 20meg/1.5Meg upload off peak, also UPCs low ping compared to Eircons ping in the hundreds , Whenever I go out to my parents I cant belive my Dads paying Eircon €80 a month for 7.6Meg Broadband or something like that (Its the business package), even when I lived with the parents and used Eircon it was crap, UPC rules imo, TV isnt great (The box I have is the old ntl pre upc one and the EPG freezes (I dont think the newer boxes have this problem) and it does pause occasionally (so does satelite TV sometimes aswell though), so I guess on average I'm very happy with UPC

For nine people I know who have had the service, only four remain. That's not to say it is poor for everyone. I imagine a lot of problems will be due to wiring in the home.

Well, i won't be getting them after all.
Rang them last night to get a few answers on some questions i had and i didnt get past the 1st one. Unlike what it says on their website, they are not available in my estate in Citywest
I guess until they take over Broadworks they wont be available.
    So back to square one.:(
Cant do anything about my TV package but am still gonna ditch Talktalk (id rather deal with the mafia than with them), probably for vodafone.
Thats if this shower want to give me my UAN number cos obviously they dont have it on the bill.
