G&G SR25 (GR25) jamming problem

    Hey everyone,

I received my G&G SR25 yesterday from Redwolfairsoft. Opened the box and was quite impressed by the look of it, but once I took it out of the box the problems started. First of the all the rear body pin was loose in the box, and when put in the appropriate hole at the rear of the receiver, it just falls out again, and the stock has a very worrying wobble in it. But the biggest problem is it won't fire. I'm using 5.95mm G&G bbs which I've used in other tightbore barrel guns without an issue. It will fire one, and then jam. So I clear the barrel, reload, and again the same result, fire one bb, albeit quite accurately, and then jam again...I know it's semi auto but this is ridiculous. I've cleaned the barrel thouroughly, and the loading nozzle to the chamber, so I don't know what else to do. I've emailed redwolf but haven't had a reply, and this is quite frustrating as between the cost of the rifle and import duty it's set me back just short of €500. Can anyone here help or offer some advice.

    Cheers,
    Mark.

I've never ordered from RedWolf so I can't comment on their service, and I'm not a techie so I can't offer any advice on how to fix the issue. The following suggestions would be true when dealing with any issue, irrespective of vendor.
    1. Make contact with the vendor, detailing the problem, to see how they want to handle it. You've already done this and they don't seem to want to play ball
    2. If you paid by PayPal open a dispute, that usually gets some sort of repsonse from a vendor
    3. If you paid using your credit card call/write to your card company and get them to hold payment due to faulty goods.
From what you have described it sounds like the gun may have already been used, or at least test-fired. If it had to be downgraded before shipping this would explain why it was fired but is no excuse for leaving it in this condition.

I am curious about one thing: Why did you order from RedWolf when there are at least two Dublin shops (and I'm sure others around the country) that stock G&G, was it really any easier/cheaper to order from RW?

Yeah, I'm giving them 48 hours to reply, and if I hear nothing back, I'm going down the paypal dispute route. I know there are Dublin based shops that sold some G&G guns, but none of them sold the SR25. A few months ago I did ask one Dublin based store (which will remain nameless) if they could order in a Classic Army rifle that they didn't have in stock, and I was told that they couldn't (wouldn't). I would have much preferred to buy locally, so to speak, but the last time I tried, it didn't get a great reception.

I don't know what shop you had the trouble with but I can definitely recommend both Eirsoft & Hobby Airsoft (see retailer threads & retailer feedback thread). I'm pretty sure Shiva (Eirsoft) had a GR25 in stock last time I checked and I'm sure Sarsoft/sci-ops/Ricka (Hobby) would have been happy to order one for you.

It's never good when there's an issue with any item, but it's far worse when it has been ordered from some distant retailer. Assuming RW do come back and offer to rectify the situation make sure you get it in writing that they will pay the shipping costs (both ways!) to fix the AEG as it was broken straight out-of-the-box. And even if they do commit to fixing the problem you should inform your card company therer is an ongoing issue OR if you paid by PayPal make sure you open a dispute before the 30 days (45?) is up if the situation hasn't been resolved to your satisfaction, even if they appear to be trying to get it sorted

Cool, thanks for the advice. Well it's my first time on boards.ie, so I didn't know about any of those other retailers, so I reckon it will be my first and last time dealing with RW. I've bought from various hong kong/chnia based companies beofre and never had an issue, but like you say, it's a dose when something goes wrong when it was bought from abroad. My paypal account was charged on the 9th of this month, so if I don't hear back by this time tomorrow, which would be approx 5pm hong kong time, I'll be contacting paypal.

I presume I would have to pay customs duty again though, or could I hold them liable for that too?

I don't see why you would have to pay customs a 2nd time, once you have paid to import something once that's it, just make sure you keep all your receipts/documentation so if/when the courier tries to charge you customs excise again then you can demonstrate that you have already paid it.

Check out the IAA site (http://irishairsoft.ie/), it lists all affiliated retailers & sites.

Grand so, thanks very much. Well at least now I know there are retailers in Ireland who will order stuff for ya, so I don't have to go through the hassle anymore. The courier who delivered it (ups) did say that I shouldn't order any more as customs are clamping down on them big time. He may have been talking out his arse, but I dunno.

I have one of these, it's not a fault. You need to run it with a 9.6V battery. The SR25 has a long-stroke gearbox and I've found that using an 8.4V pack, even fully charged, doesn't provide enough power to fully cycle the piston that distance.

When you pull the trigger, in the jammed state it's in now, you'll a light "thunk" noise from the gearbox, just above the motor. This is the anti-reversal latch kicking in. You can reset it by either putting in a fully charged 9.6V pack and letting loose a few shots, or by removing the motor and pushing the bevel gear (the first one you see through the hole in the base of the gearbox that accepts the motor) on a revolution.

It's a common problem people experience when they use it first. It's less prevalent on the G&P version as it has a full-auto option available to it also.

The other common issue, just to give you some advance warning, is the fuse. While the fuse itself is perfectly fine and will operate without any hassle, they have a tendency to blow fuses when you start to rapidly fire with no pause. I've experienced this a few times, albeit not terribly often. It'd be a good idea to keep a pack of spare fuses in your kit, just in case it does happen to you during a game (if possible, make them "time delay" or "time lag" fuses, they're much more suited to airsoft devices).
An even better idea is to swap the fuse and carrier completely and install a thermal reset fuse. It's a €10-15 upgrade that will mean you never have to worry about a fuse again.

Stick with it, it's a fantastic rifle.

I see. I heard about the fuse thing with alright, seems to be a semi auto thing. Same with the PSG1 apparently. I know the noise you mean with the anti-reversal latch, but the gearbox is cycling fully, and is intermittently firing bb's. I'm starting to think it may be a mag feeding issue, as it will fire maybe one in every four now, and then some bb's come rolling out the end of the barrel. But it is an 8.4 that I'm using so I might have a scour round and see if I can find a 9.6. Thanks for the advice.

    **EDIT**
I just got some KSC .25g Perfect bb's off one of the lads, and it seems to be working much better now (only 1 round misfired/jammed out of 15), so I'll tip away with it today, and see how I get on.
