2004 5 series sat nav

I just got a 2004 BMW 5 series, and I am having some trouble with the Sat Nav. It says it cannot locate the map when I go to search for a destination. Am I able to put in the new 2010 DVD, or do older BMWs take different versions of the maps on CDs and not DVDs? many thanks
