I have just been offered a 6 month contract to work in the middel east, I have a 7 month old Malamute and if I can't get him long term care I will have to think about giving him to someone. Can anyone give me some advice please

where are you located? Do you not have any friends or family that would take him if you cover all the living costs?

You will really have to give this very serious thought.
Will your contract definitely only be for six months or is there a chance it could be extended?
Its ok for dogs to be in kennels for two or three weeks when their owners go on holidays but I would wonder what effect this would have on the dog if it were for a longer period of time.
Check with your local kennels and also your vet and see what they say. I can see you are faced with a difficult decision. If you cannot get somebody that you can trust to mind the dog you might have to make an even harder decision to let him go to somebody who is looking for a dog.
    Good luck with your decision.
What part of the country are you in?

I am in Wexford, I have no friends who could handle a big dog. I am not going for another 6 weeks. I just want to get it organised asap. 2 years ago I could have turned down the work but not these days.

Try ISDW on the board. She runs a boarding kennel but also a sled dog rescue so will be able to advise on both!

Teresa out near kilmeaden in Waterford is excellent. She and her husband are early retired, have acres of land, indoor and outdoor kennels. Walk the dogs twice a day, and provide all feed. She truely loves the dogs and doesnt do it out of want for money, and because fo this her rates as excellent.
Shes a lovely lady and takes dogs for long periods of time if needed.

PM me for her number if you are interested

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I may think hard about my options. Have a few weeks to decide on the best for Homer yet. It's him I am concerned about.

Hi. I realise this thread is 8 years old but I'm interested to know how the situation worked out for you as I'm in a similar position at the minute.

Dragging up old threads for no good reason is considered poor forum ettiquete. Feel free to start your own thread for your own situation.
