Computer Science/IT through Unden Science?

I have placed Marine Science 1st on my CAO application, but even though it is a area of study that interested me a lot, I'am worried about the chances of finding employment after graduating.

However future demand for IT graduates would/will seem to be very good.

So, here the thing I failed to put down Computer Science and IT on my CAO application but now feel that it may have been a good choice, and as I'am a mature applicant I cant add the course to my CAO, (I dont have Unden Eng on there either)

So can anyone tell me anything about taking the Computer/IT modules through Unden Science as a route into the IT industry. Would this be a good choice or is it just a poor man's IT degree?

    Cheers!

As far as I know, the biggest shortage of graduates at the moment is of graduates with 'pure' IT/Computer Science degrees.

Apparently Google wanted to create a significant number of new IT jobs in Dublin but decided against doing so because of the sheer lack of graduates due to finish this year or next year with 'pure' IT/Computer Science level 8 degrees.

There's no doubting that there's also a shortage of people doing IT through 'something else' though. I'm not really sure of how much IT you would do if you were doing it through science though, sorry.

Quite honestly, I have heard absolutely nothing good about the Comp Sci course you do through undenominated science, and I know a good few mature students in Undenom. (I'm a mature student in Marine Myself)

I'm about to graduate with a Computer Science degree and I already have a job. A lot of jobs going if thats what you are into. Don't do if you don't have an interest though.

One thing though in NUIG the course is very heavily maths based. They don't even have a computer science department. UCD and Trinity have very good programmes more focused on computing and I probaby should have done one of those.

Basically this, I'm due to graduate this year and to be perfectly honest it should be called "Maths Studies and more Maths with a hint of Computing". I honestly feel I would have been much better off to study computing elsewhere but Galway just made sense at the time as I had a very good weekend job to support me and my habits, of which there are many!
