Help with balancing Intervals\HIIT & Aerobic training

OK, so my head is frazzled with this. Basically I have a 5K run in 4 weeks and I'm wondering what would be the best "balance" of these methods. I'm somewhat fit (what's fit anyway?) but this is my first actual "run". Ive been reading around and im now officially at the stage where I am more confused than when I started out!

For the last couple of weeks, I've been doing what I thought was HIIT, but I think its actually just interval training. Eg. Last day, on the treadmill I would "run" @ 7MPH for 1:30, then rest\walk 3.5MPH for 1:00 or so, or until my HR droppped to around 140. After the run portion my HR would was around 180 mark, peaking at 185 as I got to the end. (I'm 29yrs old, a shade under 60 resting HR).

So, my question is.......What would your reccomendation be to maximize my training over the next four weeks, naturally I want to avoid overtraining and be smart about it. I'm shooting for 4-5 days on, 2 days (weekend) off. I need to pack some resistance in there too. I have about 40mins of time to train in the morning. by that I mean 40mins after warmup, cooldown and stretches. Usually I have around 1hr-1hr15 of total time at the Gym if I get up early enough!!

    Right now im thinking:

Monday: 40mins interval on treadmill as above
    Tues: Resistance + HIIT (10mins)?
Wed: Endurance (aerobic) 40mins or so
    Thurs: Resistance + HIIT?
    Fri: As per Monday

Any thoughts? Let me know what other info you need. Thanks in advance, my head is spinning here!

Any takers? Theres a 5K run on this weekend, I might skip the gym on Friday and do that instead. Monitor my HR and see how it goes...
