Investing in UK Construction?

I'm a complete newbie to investing, but have come into a small amount (£1500) which I'd like to take a gamble on the UK stock market with, with the goal of making a reasonable profit in the next 2 years.

Anyway, it's pretty evident I've missed the bottom of the recession for most investments, but one sector which is still at a very low point is construction. The British economy may be slowly beginning to recover, but there's still very little construction under way. I'd imagine this is likely to change in the next year or two.

    The question is, which companies?

    My thoughts:

There's not going to be much activity in the private home building market. They can barely give away apartments in the UK at the moment.

The UK election will determine to a degree what types of buildings will be built. The Conservatives aim to strengthen the private sector and entice new companies to the UK, which will mean more office buildings. Labour have ambitious programs to increase spending on the construction of schools. Both parties however will likely reduce public spending.

Anyone with a bit more knowledge and experience have any thoughts on this?
