    Hi,

Its my first time doing a Marathon and Berlin is the one I am doing. I registered on their site a few weeks ago. I am not a runner but I want to do it for the 'challenge'. I am giving myself around six months to prepare for it. I intend running the marathon in around 4 hours but I don't really know my pace yet. I ran 10km on the treadmill in 50 minutes yesterday. I think I am going to limit my treadmill training as I dont like running in the gym and the machine stops after an hour, it also gets quite boring.

Has anyone ran this Marathon before and if so how did you get on?

I am just anxious about what day to fly over and where to go to get race numbers etc....Also should I be looking to book accomodation soon as there will be a lot of runners etc. in the city for this weekend.

Also, how many long runs should I be doing a week? On a lot of the training programmes online it seems like just one a week with shorter runs at an easy or tempo pace.

As you can see, I am a complete Newbie to this so any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Patdusty

there's a thread on Berlin in the Events section
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055876226&highlight=berlin

I can't offer much advice beyond, pick a training plan, try some shorter races to get more of a feel for it, and run outside.

There was a thread for novice DCM runners last year, you should read through it to see how people got on in their training. There might be a similar thread this year...

You picked a nice one to enter Pat! Havent done it but am tempted this year to give it a go. Go to this page for programmes

    http://www.halhigdon.com/marathon/Mar00novice.htm

There are more advanced programmes than this on that website, I just finished my first marathon last week and I did Intermediate 2.

    Good luck with it
