Cm punk, best heel in the business at the moment

For me he's awesome on the mic and his look is brillant
The feud with Jeff Hardy was the feud of 2009 and his fued with rey mysterio has been good

so anybody a fan of the straight edge superstar?

I'm a fan of his wrestling but I don't think he is the best heel in the business. I actually preferred when he was a face. I don't like WWE's policy of taking long established face wrestlers and turning them heel, ok, so most WWE wrestlers have been heel at some point throughout their career as well as face...but I don't like, Jericho is another example, preferred when he was more well liked. People shouldn't boo talent.

I think Punk is an excellent heel, but was also a very good face character. Good on the mic, generates heat, is both technically and visually sound in the ring, and some of the poses and facial looks he does add so much to his character or whatever storyline he is involved in.


The Straight Edge gimmick is such a good one imho, as it works well for a face or a heel.

his work in ROH as a heel is even better but sadly with the PG era he can't do half the things he did with his feud with Raven. But saying that he's far better as a heel then as a face which he was good at but not great.

Punk has always worked better as a heel, and it is no coincidence that the same is happening now. I think he got a bit lost as a face and the fans saw this and started to not care about him. The heel turn was nicely done and not done too quickly.

Best in the business? I would say not. Not yet anyway. I think that accolade goes to Jericho. but if Punk continues the way he is going, he will take that mantle quite proudly.

Jericho has been great and i would say he's one of the best but at the moment Punk is cutting great promo after great promo while Jericho has slacked a bit with this Edge feud but his promo with Swagger wanting his belt back was funny:D

Thats the way wrestling has always been. Face/heel. The crowd reaction to the heel is part of the show. It's what builds atmosphere. You cannot have every talented entertainer a good guy. All reactions are good wether heel or face. It's when the doomed silence hits is when you worry.


I have been enjoying Punk and Jericho the last while however I think Batista over the last few months has been the better heel. This could be swayed because I never considered Dave to be heel material and he has proved me wrong.

if your a heel the whole point is to invoke a negative reaction from the crowd

Punk is great as a heel and his current gimmick is genius but currently Vickie gets the most heat as a heel imo

Have to disagree vehemently with this. there is just no comparion between the smiling, directionless goofball Punk was as a face and the incredibly compelling talker and character Punk is as a heel.

He's not the best in the business, but he is well on the way to being and if he's given the right opportunities could easily become one of the best of the coming decade.

WWE have some top heels at the moment actually its their great strength when you look at Jericho, Orton, Edge a couple of years back,and Batista who's been immense since his turn.

I'm not sure what it takes to be a good heel. I mean is it someone who's so nasty that you want to see him get his head beat in by the face? If so, for me, that's not been the case for a long long time.

At the moment the only heel I can think of who I'd like to see get a hammering is JBL, but that's because he's a reputation as a bully backstage. And you can kind of see it come across when he's in the ring too.

For the guys who are heels at the moment though, quite a few of them I like and would cheer for. I f*****g love heel Batista. That episode of Raw a few weeks ago before WM where he gave Cena about 7 chair shots and then just stood with his arms in the air saying "thank you" to the crowd, was great.

Rey Mysterio is a good worker, but I always tend to cheer for whoever he's against. So at the SD show last Fri night I was kind of cheering for Punk. Although probably part of the reason was that I had a f***** headache from thousands of high pitched children screaming "619".

The Miz is currently a heel but he's really getting over and he got cheered a lot in Dublin. Probably one of the best guys on the mic in the company at the moment. I don't know if he does his own promo's, I can't imagine WWE creative coming out with his scripts as they're so much better than the other scripted promo's which makes me think Miz is coming up with them himself.

Its almost impossible for a heel to get over as a heel with anyone other than kids by just being a bad guy in the traditional sense these days. Thats why you see guys like Jericho and Orton getting as many cheers as jeers at live events. O the flipsid its why Cena gets boed as well.

Not sur what the solution is only to say that the traditional face/heel role that existed say in the 80's is dead and buried. Its a good thing as it leads to more sophisticated booking and forces the writers to give a bit more depth to the characters we see every week. Well, you'd think it would anyway.

The problem is that people don't like being told who to cheer (Basically the reason why the Attitude era started) people hate being told who to cheer, hence why no one will ever get absoloutly booed out of the arena because everybody will boo then people will cheer just cause they like to be different. Its like why John Cena is not liked cause everybody else liked him so everybody turned, can't have everybody cheering him, the same happens with the heel's unfortunatly.
