I went on a night out to a friends birthday a month ago and now am expecting my first child in December, so much for my plans of becoming a Doctor.

Anyone else here have examples of trivial decisions that completly changed you life.

So was the trivial choice to go out for your friend's birthday or to have unprotected sex?

Cause one of those choices isn't trivial.

That's right. Birthday parties are just hellish...

If she isn't too demanding regarding support then you might be able to still become a doctor.
It will make it more difficult though.

I assume she knows your full name/can find you?

OP maybe PI might be a better place for your thread , at least there people can share their experiences with you and answer any questions you might have.

You still have time to run if she doesn't!

Sounds to me like the OP was being pushed towards being a doctor by his parents and has now jumped on this as an excuse to not fulfilling that dream.

Nicely done OP. I applaud your opportunism. Don't let them live vicariously through you.

Save your post and write it in you're son/daughters birthday card on their 18th birthday, it's charming. ;)

If you don't even know the consequences of unprotected sex at this stage, I don't fancy your chances of making it anyway.

Isn't there a crash course you can do in medicine to prepare yourself for this little bundle of joy?

Might be best to start with medical school in your strong hand, the child will be somewhat lighter.

You want to be a doctor, and yet you don't bother taking precautions to protect yourself from STI's and also the trauma of an unwanted pregnancy?

    Nice.............................................................

At what point in time did STDs become STIs?

Ah come on people - give the lad a break. How was he supposed to know that having unprotected sex could lead to preganacy?

Sure they don't teach that in medical school until 2nd year.

They're same thing. Like Mary Harney and Beelzebub.

have you talked to the mother about this yet? is she definitely going through with the pregnancy? how much do you want to be involved? how much does she want you to be involved?

as for the money aspect, when decisions are being made about payments, do they not take your circumstances and income into account?
how are you funding medical school?
maybe this sounds naive, but can't you just get a big loan?
your parents might be supportive and help with childcare. and most universities offer childcare services as well. what is the mother's situation, is she studying or working?

it won't be easy but you can definitely do both. the only thing i would suggest is maybe deferring it a year, giving yourself extra time to save up and help out if you really want to be involved [i cant imagine its easy to study when you're up all hours with a crying baby those first few months.

but you can definitely do it.

If only you were named after a crude abortion method... oh hang on. ;)

Getting some well thought out genuine PI style advice really put the icing on the cake. Quality trolling right there.

You forgot "on the face". I find that to be the most romantic of shootages. Plus it gives you an excuse not to have to kiss or talk to her after the deed.

How can something so good, a shag... can result in something so bad... 18 years of hassle and responsibility... just aint fair..
