Last night one of my best friends told me he has gotten his 16 yr old gf pregnant and he doesnt quite know what to do, this has put the fear of God into me and my gf.. so we're looking to branch out from our usual contraceptive option of condoms, to something a little more reliable.
Could any of you ladies, or lads if you know, give us a rough idea on the prices of the pill, Implanon (the implant), and the contraceptive injection?

I did do a forum search, and found a thread very similar to this, but it was posted in '06 so Im looking for more up to date answers, please.

Thankyou very much in advance :)

Injection approx. €80 every 12 weeks.
Pill approx €15 per month plus doctor visit every six months for prescription renewal.

No idea on the implant, but if you check out the ladies lounge there is a big sticky on contraceptives there.

The oral contracpetive pill will vary in price depending on which type from between 9 to 17 euro per monthly perscription and then there are the drs visits as well, which for the first year is usually at least 4 consultations.

    http://www.wellwomancentre.ie/index.php?p=services
The well woman's clinic charges 20 euro pers Depo shot on top of a gp consultation.

For the implannon it's a consultation first and then the Fitting €125.00, this doesn't include the cost of filling the implanon perscription.

There are also the options of the contracpetive patch and the nuvaring.

Well jakers, Im glad I started this thread because in the old one someone said it was €15 I think every 12 weeks :o

Is there by any chance a clinic where we can go and get advice on which type of contraception would be best for her(body)? or is that just a case of trial and error?

Start with your GP. The variation in pricing may be down to the cost of the treatment v cost of treatment + doctor visit.

    Hi

Thaedydal is right. You should definitely go to see a GP and have the most appropriate contraception perscribed for you. You should look at www.womenshealthclinic.ie. and www.wellwomencentre.ie. They give plenty of information about your options and the costs

    See this website

    http://contraception.about.com/od/prescriptionoptions/p/Implanon.htm

Says about 40mm long by 2mm wide. Size of a matchstick.

The 2euro pill i'm on is called Ovranette. Ive had a great experience with it, but not every pill suits every women, if your gf goes to the dr she should definatley mention that she would prefer a cheaper pill if possible.

of course even the more expensive pills are cheaper than a kid :P
