Under 21 Football Semi Final time change

How do people feel about the times and venues for the Under 21 Football Semi Finals?

    http://www.breakingnews.ie/sport/under-21-semis-rescheduled-to-avoid-clash-with-congress-453566.html

Basically the games are being played under lights which means that Donegal and Tipperary have to travel to Parnell Park for a game at 7.30 while Roscommon and Dublin have to travel to Cavan for the same time. The reason given is to accomodate 40 delegates at the GAA congress.

Donegal fans have the choice of paying for overnight accomodation or getting home at one or two in the morning. In Cavan they have found a venue further from Dublin or Roscommon than they are from each other, and their fans cant hope to be home much before 11.

There were 8000 people at the Connaught Under 21 final - a few more than the 40 delegates the GAA are so worried about!!! I thought the GAA was meant to be a family friendly organisation - especially at Underage level. Roscommon havent won a Connaught Under 21 final since 1999, and have just been relegated to Division 4 football. Tipperary winning Munster was a huge event for them also. These Semi final pairings gave the GAA a chance to promote the game by having a huge crowd, a great family occasion with children wearing their county colours etc. The essence of what the organisation is supposed to be about.

But listen as long as it doesn't interfere with Congress who cares about the Supporters.

That's a bit of a joke alright. A double header at a reasonable time during the day would be ideal, might even get a decent crowd! Not taking supporters, especially those with young children into account. Could the delegates not make their votes in the morning and be excused from the day's precedings!

Its just typical of the mindless administrators that run the gaa. They wonder why no one goes to their games. I was hoping to go to the dublin v Ros semi final but i am reliant on public transport and if i went to Cavan i would have to stay overnight.

What was wrong with the game been played in longford, Mullingar, Tullamore or portlaoise?

    Take a bow administrators!!:(:(

I agree - what an absolute digrace - a double header in say Portlaoise at say 4pm/6pm would have attracted 15,000+ - what planet are they on? Personally can't see myelf going to Cavan

As for Parnell Park for the other game -did whoever arranged these fixtures forget to look at a map!!

The timing and choice of venue of these fixtures just shows how much the GAA are out of tune with reality! Because Congress is on everything must be deferred to suit a couple of hob knobs! A complete farce the whole thing is!

What's worse is that TG4 had planned to show one of the games but at 4.45pm that afternoon, they'll have to rejig their schedules now as well.

Was going to start another thread about same. Here was my post:

In fairness who are the brain dead morons that fixed the All-Ireland U-21 semi-final between Roscommon and Dublin for 7.30pm in Breffni Park next Saturday evening? Miles away from both counties but suspiciously close to the GAA convention in Down, so as a few delegates might be able to attend.
There is great excitement in Roscommon about this, and thousands are expecting to travel so cue huge traffic jams, guaranteed late kick off and most supporters including many young children not getting home until the wee hours. Crazy decision and a major loss of income as a lot especially the Dubs will be put of by the journey. Mullingar or Tullamore would have been better choices.
The Donegal-Tipp one is just idiotic.

I would imagine a lot of Cork people will be fuming at the fact that there is no double header as well.
The first decisions by the fixture’s committee and they fcuked it up, looking forward to the rest of the year.

good point about the match locations, a midlands venue would have suited all involved and at a respectable time would have gotten a decent crowd. not even sure if there'l be a late train back to tipp after the game but sure aslong as the 40 delegates are happy thats all that matters :(

Saturday is a big day for Tipperary football and they put the game on in Dublin. You would of got a decent crowd at a midlands venue ie tullamore or mullingar but doubt anyone will travel on a saturday night. No respect shown to players management or supporters again.

Even by GAA standards this is ludicrous fixture making. The mind boggles.

Dublin v Roscommon in Breffni Park????? Surely Mullingar would be the obvious choice, a handy enough drive for both sets of supporters. Then they send Tipp and Donegal to Parnell Park. What next? Why not play the Galway v Cork hurling final in Casement Park while they're at it.

It's a shocking decision regarding the Donegal v Tipp match I had hoped to get to see it but not going to stay overnight in Dublin, so if it's say a Dublin v Donegal final will it be held in Killarney? Tipp v Roscommon in Belfast because that is about the same sense as Saturdays match they are going to loose 60% of the gate because of this.

Common sense is surprisingly uncommon by times...

a double header in mullingar or tullamore would have been ideal.donegal and tipp fans would still have long journeys but it would have made more sense.

Best of luck to the Donegal lads tonight!!!

Some joke these fixtures. I would have suggested Playing Tipp and Donegal in Carrick on Shannon/Roscommon or somewhere in between, either way its a long trip from some parts of these counties. Roscommon and Dublin is easier to fix as there are a lot of decent grounds in between, like in Portlaoise/Mullingar which is a little over an hour for most supporters.

Its also very unfair on families with small kids who might have a relative or neighbour playing to have these games at 7.30. If they go to extra time you will be doing well to get to Dublin on good roads by mid-night, imagine if you are from North/west Donegal or south Tipp where you might not have a motorway or dual carriage way 1am or 2am..
    This is one bad decision

Anyone got an update on the Dublin game?

    dublin won.i think by 7pts

Who got the two Dublin goals?

The first yellow for Furman was hilarious. Awful decision.

Dublin goals were from David Quinn and an excellent penalty from Dean Rock.

The referee was awful but the referees spokesman will say he was following instructions. The game became very fragmented as a result. He let some pretty heavy tackles go and booked players from both sides who appeared to make genuine attempts to play the ball. It does not help when lads fall over looking for frees!!!

Really disappointed with Dublins ball winning at midfield for first 40minutes. The Dublin kickouts were good and well placed yet Dublin players continually spilled the ball you would expect them to claim at this level. Dean Rock won some good ball when he came out as did the sub Stapleton. In fairness Roscommon had good fielders but were really chasing the game after Dublin had that good start

Well done Donegal, best of luck in the final which I suppose will be held in cork.

The final's set for Cavan afaik.

Thought the referee was very harsh on Tipp. Pulled them up twice or 3 times for not hand passing the ball correctly while Donegal threw the ball all evening and got away with it. The same inconsistancy that the referee showed in the Dublin Roscommon match.

However Dublin will be rightly concerned about Michael Murohy. He is not only a good man to get scores but a brilliant ball winner. The Dublin lads will need to get about 70% of midfield possession if they are to have a chance of beating Donegal. They are not a one man team and their all team work was good.

The Final is on Saturday 1st of May at 7 in Cavan.

I missed the first 5 mins - and the 2 Dublin goals typical! - I guess Roscommon were always chasing the game but I have to say their performance was poor - missed a good few chances, a few of their top players were poor and they really faded out the last quarter.

Dublin finished very well - defenders were tight - took some nice scores

Ref was very poor - the first yellow for the Dublin 11 was a mystery - as an aside reckon Roscommon supportes outnumbered the Dubs 3 to 1.

Was at the game on Saturday, very impressed with the 8 and 9 pairing in midfield of Mulhern and Curran. Both used the ball wisely and Mulhern was very good at hounding the opposition when they had the ball. Murphy seemed to have 3 men on him all the time so was kept quiet for a good part of the first half. Came into his own in the second though. Defensively looked very solid too.

Anyone know where the final is due to be held? Hopefully can get away to see that.

Future looks well for Donegal football from what I saw Sat night.

Thats what happens when the County board have a full round of U/16 Championship games in the afternoon and the Juvenile leagues. That stopped about 5-6 lads from our club alone travelling.
