They are widely regarded as top notch. Fully accredited as you said. Very professionally ran. You recieve all your course work via the post, and then have TMA's (tutor marked accessments) every 6-7 weeks. You will attend a college every couple of weeks to meet with your assigned tutor and fellow students to go over your course work. I would highly reccomend.

I'm studying psychology with the OU at the moment. I'm doing the conversion course (but that has been discontinued for new students due to lack of funding). I have found all of the modules to be very interesting. The OU has very up-to-date resources in terms of books, CDs and DVDs.

I would have studied it by night if I had the option, but as I don't live in Dublin I didn't have that option. I would have preferred to attend lectures. But the material and resources given are of a very high quality. They make it easier to study alone. I found it difficult to motivate myself sometimes though.

There are 6 assessments (essays or projects) for each module and one end of module examination. The assessments are given equal weighting to the exam if you get results in the same grade band for both. However, if you get a lower mark in your examination than the (combined) result for your assessments, then you get the lower grade band overall for that module. That's the only problem that I have with the OU. But that's what you sign up for.

I am also interested in studying psychology with counselling with the open university as I like how I can pay module by module and still work. My only question is how long each module takes, and what are the deadlin es like in terms of finishing each module and completing each assignment within each module?

    Thanks in advance!
