    Hi

Wondering if anyone can help me - heading to NYC in Sept for 5 days, I havent booked the flights yet but have booked the hotel, but can cancel this although its a suprise for my BF birthday and we have the time booked off from work!!

The price of the flights are really expensive about 560 euro each return, do u think these prices may go down or should i just book them now in case they go up!!

    Cheers

It's very hard to judge what will hapen to the price of flights, they are supposed to be on sale at the moment, but they are the same price as last week! Aer Lingus seem to be very expensive this year, I think they have decreased their capacity and so the price has shot up.

Do you have to fly Aer Lingus? I booked last week with Continental from Shannon, we are heading to New York on Aug 28th and we were quoted a similar price to you with Aer Lingus. Continental were only €450pp. The only slight issue is that they fly to Newark so it takes a bit longer to get into Manhatten from the airport, but for those savings, I had no problem with that.

There is a chance that those AL prices will come down. They normally have quite a good sale in May/June, but I think it's unlikely they'll go below €500 pp and there is always the chance they'll go up. Good luck! :)

I would say Newark is about the same distance as JFK. There's a train to Penn Station from Newark and in a taxi it doesn't take long as I used that when I went in Jan. I'd highly recommend Continental, great service, lovely food, good entertain system.

You are most definitely wrong there mate, Newark is much closer to Manhattan journey-time wise than JFK or any other NYC airport

Having lived in Queens (JFK is on the far side of queens) and also in New Jersey (south of newark), newark has always been a preference for flying into when visiting manhattan.. its a much nicer airport and you can see the manhattan sky line from the terminal, JFK is a struggle to get to manhattan from via train and traffic can be absolutely mental driving in.

That's good to know, I guess I presumed Newark was further out as it's in a different state . I've flown Continental before with just a stop-over in Newark and they are my favourite airline, great entertainment options, good food and well priced.

Someone said to me that I was missing out on part of the NYC experience by not flying into JFK, it sounds like a major headache so I'm more than happy to be 'missing out' on that.

Have you tried Delta? I'm heading to either new york or Vegas in about 5 weeks time and have been pricing flights and Delta are the cheapest. Try ebookers.ie and put in your dates. It will give you a list of airlines and prices and sometimes they are cheaper than the airlines website.

We got quoted 435 euro to ny with delta, through ebookers includingall taxes.
