so i lost my iphone a few months ago and claimed it on the hibernian insurance or whoever it is covers it through O2. they sent me a replacement phone. the old phone has since turned up, im wondering what happens in this situation.
Would the old phone actually work , or has it been "blocked" somehow ?
i dont want to try turning it on until i find out .
    thanks

You need to tell them, it's their phone now.

It will be blacklisted until they have it back

Hang on, phone O2, give them the IMEI, tell them the handset has turned up and you want it un-blacklisted. I'm not sure of the legalities involved here but at this stage I believe any costs will have been long written-off. You've paid your premiums and the excess, so this, to me, would be a case of just clearing your recovered phone for use again.

AFAIK, once the insurance company has confirmed that the handset has been lost/stolen and blacklisted with O2, there is no further checking on that handset, it's just written off.

In a previous job i've seen this loophole used on purpose but at the end of the day it's up to you.

yeah the phone will be a glorified ipod touch if its blacklisted, i'm not sure if it could get anythin from the app store over wifi but i doubt it
