I think it's gone viral with the Italian version as well, saw a tweet from Owens about it last night.

    Both quotes from the Examiner.ie

At this stage Quinny will be making a comeback. Worse case scenario Holland 6, Coughlan 8, POM 7 . Something like that?

DOC 4, Ryan 6, POM 7, Coughlan 8 and Holland 20 more likely I'd say. Hopefully it won't come to it.

Actually thats a better one. Ryan adds plenty at 6. Hopefully Castres do what we expect and send over the Junior B team.

If Paul Scholes can then why not Quinny? Axel might even think about digging out the shorts at this stage....

Quinny and Axel will come out for the B&I cup game maybe (like MOK last year for Leinster). Ryan POM Coghland with Holland on the bench for the first team

Wallace isn't far off a comeback, right?

Anyone know how long he has left on his rehab?

Afaik he is going to be registered for the HEC squad this week.

That'll ease a bit of the backrow worries.

I dont think he's back before late February. I think he's back during the six nations, so hopefully he'll get some matches in then, and get back up to speed. That doesn't help us for the next two games though.

Yeah Big Mal was dragged back last year - it was during the 6n and Leinster had a magners game so the B&I team was about a third string selection they were rightly stuck for players. He managed about 40 minutes before having to go off to have a smoke or something.

We can add 1 player during the pool stages, and 3 more before the quarters, so unless Wallace is fit for the trip to Milton Keynes, I can't see the point in adding him now. It would make more sense to add him in March. Adding Butler could have been an option, but apparently he injured his shoulder playing for Shannon. Hayes, Howlett, and Leamy can all be taken out of the HEC Squad.

At the moment, we have O'Mahony, Ryan, Holland, Dave O'Callaghan and Coughlan available for next week, with a question mark over Ronan.

Meh, Munster could play O'Gara in the back row against Castres and they'd still win at a canter, but a back row of Ryan, O'Mahony and Coughlan isn't too bad so no worries there.
A 5-pointer this weekend could mean that the game in Northampton becomes a whole lot less meaningful, so no need for panic just yet.

Talking of B&I Cup, when are the Q/Fs, this week-end or the following week-end? I know it was tied into one of the H/C week-ends. Hopefully, it will be the following week-end, give us more time to get a few backrowers available.

Bringing any player out of retirement means that they would need a while to get back to fitness. Scholes can do it for Man U but as Nigel Owens said, this isn't soccer. If they were stuck they could dip into the academy. DOC2, Shane Buckley, Brian O'Hara are all backrowers.

I think Tommy O'Donnell must be tearing his hair out. He was playing very well against Ulster and would be able to slot right into the team for a rare HEC appearance but its not to be.

Scholes had still been training full time with Utd.

Hayes, Howlett, and Leamy can all be taken out of the HEC Squad.

    This was in today's IT:
McGahan will add a backrower to his European squad today ahead of Castres’ visit to Thomond Park on Saturday with 21-year-old Paddy Butler expected to be promoted.
“We will have to look at the numbers, we have registration to close at five or six at five o’clock on Tuesday and then we have an opportunity after that deadline if we get through to the quarter-final but we still have a few guys like David Wallace and Felix Jones to come back into the squad so that immediately eats up two places already,” said McGahan.

I guess that statement could be interpreted a couple of different ways but it sounds like Wallace and Jones must be at least nearing full fitness if they're being registered for the HEC this week. Otherwise, like you say Flincher, why not wait until the knockouts to register them?

Then again, maybe McGahan's referring to the later deadline in the cases of Wallace and Jones. I just don't know. (Am I the first person to admit to this on Boards? Or the internet???)

Sherry back in full contact training tomorrow. Great news. Everything else, not so much.
Mike Sherry returns to training this week having been out of action since early October when he injured an ankle in a club game.

    Share
He'll have his first full contact session tomorrow tomorrow when the squad assembles in Cork ahead of the Heineken Cup game against Castres Olympique, although at this stage it's a bit soon to know when he can be considered for selection.
Paddy Butler, who injured a shoulder playing for Shannon at the weekend will have a scan today to determine the extent of the damage but Tommy O'Donnell (knee) and Tom Gleeson (shoulder) know their fate after sustaining injuries in the Ulster game. O'Donnell will be out for up to six weeks and in Gleeson's case, it looks like nearer to ten before he's able to resume full training.

Denis Leamy will have an operation next week on his hip that will keep him out for up to four months or effectively, as with Doug Howlett and Darragh Hurley, the rest of the season but on the brighter side Felix Jones, Troy Smith, Jerry Flannery and David Wallace all continue to progress along expected lines with a return to training anticipated sometime in February

Fantastic news that Sherry is back. It would be great if he got the gametime to push for a Six Nations squad spot as a 3rd choice.

Varley is well ahead of him this season. Might have been different if they'd both started the season fully fit but Sherry hasn't a prayer of getting into the 6N's mix for this season.
