Has anybody upgraded to win 7 and then found that thier laptop battery is not lasting as long and is giving the warning of "Consider replacing your battery".

I have found similar complaints on other forums but no solution.
Battery is about 15 months old.

Did you upgrade from xp? How long is the battery lasting with win 7 when just browsing/non cpu intensive apps?
I did have that problem when i upgraded a latitdue D630 from xp. Solution was to tweak loads of differant features win7 has set to run automatically (there are a huge amount of them). Doing this totally unloaded cpu and hard disk and i get similiar run time to xp now.
I cant rem specifics but hopefully others will add to this list of things to disable:
    hard disk indexing
    search
    pre-fetch
    system restore
    performance reports
    ???

    Other general tips:
Use as low a screen brightness as possible
Dont leave peripherals connected to USB
    Close unnecessary applications
Disable wifi card if not in use.
Set network card to shutdown when not in use

Its a well documented phenomenon - however Microsoft has said it is not a problem, rather just normal battery behaviour. Link.

You'll certainly find a lot more discussion about it if you search.

Personally I havent experienced any problems, and I would say that if your battery is 15 months old and has been used regularly, its possibly beginning to degrade of its own accord. Li-ion batteries have a limited number of charge cycles (300-500 has been mentioned) and as they approach high numbers the capacity decreases noticeably.

Thanks , I might try those tweaks-upgraded from xp and now battery lasts about 40 mins just browsing.

I have used battery power only approx 10% of the time the rest i use it plugged in at a desk and it is a home laptop so it doesn't get too much use.Looks like microsoft are washing thier hands of it anyway!
