Is this slice in the neck fixable?

7am, getting dressed for work, I bang into my Takamine acoustic. It falls to the floor, crack.

As the third photo shows, there's a structural crack in it. I could pry off half the neck if I wanted to. The stress from the strings means I don't think superglue could fix it.

My brother thinks that it's not even worth my while going to Rathfarnham to see if it's fixable, he says the guitar is dead and buried and it's time for me to move on :(. I think the wonders of modern medicine could have Taka back in no time.

    Is it a dead cause?

I have to say i have seen far worse damage that has been repaired. It's not completely separated, and it's a clean "slice", i can't see any reason it can't be glued.
I would remove the strings for a start, just to release the tension on the damaged neck.

That is fixable for sure. Bring it in to someone who knows what they're at. Hope to see repair pics up!

Yeah this can be fixed! But I would take off the strings, or take the tension off them at least. Do it slowly though incase it cracks more as you are doing it. I see you are in Dublin so there will be a load of guys around who could fix it for ya! :) You could always try it yourself but it might be tricky. If you are doing it yourself DONT use and white wood glues, its useless! Get some yellow carpenters glue, you can get it in woodies for under a tenner! :)

You should be able to get that fixed. I've seen cleaner breaks but someone who knows what they are doing should be able to glue it up and get it fixed. It might be pretty expensive at the end of the day though if you get a refinsih on the neck.

It's quite easy to fix a headstock break like that (to the best of my very limited knowledge), you just glue and clamp. You can find loads of tutorials online.
The skillful part AFAIK is trying to repair the finish so that you cant feel the repair and to make it look good.

Yup, that's exactly what i was thinking. Have seen some people on other forums doing it without much hassle. Glue, clamp, and wait.

Thanks for all the replies, folks.

I'll give Derek Nelson a bell when I get a chance. Could probably glue it myself but I'd be scared sh*tless of making a mess of it :).

Will post up a pic of it when we're all better!
