    Hi,

my Ak is coming in too hot and i need to downgrade it, i know that an m90 spring will bring it to 290 - 300fps and an m100 will bring it to 320 - 340fps so i just wanted to know if anyone has any experience with downgrading their AEG's and had any good advice on what to do or go for?
    Cheers!

Stick in a Vanaras M90, you'll be looking at about 310-315fps. Also be prepared to cut the spring, no matter what brand you get. You may need to cut off a few coils, depending on fps.

    Hey leftyflip,

i kinda wanted to downgrade it without having to cut the spring, i read that the systema 1j option might be the one to go for, it says it brings it in at 320fps +- a couple, do ya still think i would have to cut it tho?

It varies in every AEG, depending on seals, barrel lenghts etc, cutting the spring does no damage, just file the end.

AK74's tend to get high fps out of a spring, long barrel, non vented cylinder.

Get an ms90 and even then, as said above, you may need to snip the spring.

Im a bit hesitant about gettin a spring thats too low because i dont want to lower the fps too much lower than 328. So im thinkin the best option might be to get this systema 1j one and possibly cut it if needs be. How exactly do you know how much of the spring to cut or is it just trial and error?

The rule of thumb is each coil cut drops the fps by 10-15

If you are willing to cut the new spring that you get then why not cut your existing spring you have nothing to lose as you are willing to replace it anyway
If you have a means of measuring the spring coil diameter and length accurately ( may I suggest a Vernier) and post it here then I and many others on this forum could advise you as just how much to snip from your existing spring to get you in the 315-320 fps range

one thing to remember 328fps isnt a target its the maximum allowed by law there is little or no difference between 300-315 and 328fps

Cool, i think ill try it on my current spring so and see what happens, one last question, i presume that i cut the spring at the end furthest from the piston head, would that be correct?

Ya that the best end to cut from

Thats a very good point, and one worth repeating a lot.

A lot of people aim for 325, 326 and 327, and that's all well and good...but then if you want to play on a particularly warm day, or at a site thats at a higher altitude, you could very easily end up with a gun thats shooting over the limit, and not be allowed use it.

Anything from 290 to 320 with a decent hop up will be more than adequate.
