Do you really want the Mayo peasant as Taoiseach?

Because if you vote for Fine gael or Labour then that is what you will get. Kenny is an embarrassment. He has been in the Dáil since before anyone in Mayo had a colour television yet he has nothing to show for it. He is backward and clueless. He is also an admirer of David Cameron and the tories and wants to replicate them in Ireland. I know Irish people are desperate but no matter how desperate you are you should not vote for Kenny to be taoiseach. I would even call on people to vote Sinn Féin or Independents before voting for the peasant to be taoiseach.

Well even if he was from outer space he would be miles ahead of the shower of gangsters that are currently in situ.

Well the OP deserves the AH treatment for posting that kind of drivel

This is a republic, there aren't any 'peasants', we are all equal in the eyes of the law.

Would you be happier with Kenny if he had been elected after someone in Mayo had bought a colour television?

Why all your hostility against Mayo? Did our 'peasant' football team defeat yours in the league?

You want to talk about embarrassments, how about the former Taoiseach who couldn't even speak correctly? Hardly very statesman-like. Or the fact that he was minister for finance and didn't have a bank account, took "dig-outs" from his "friends", and tried explain sums of money he got by winning it on horses. Yes that's someone to be proud of alright.

Or how about Mary "doesn't know who Einstein and Darwin are" Coughlan? Someone who thinks it's fine for people to emigrate because it's only young people going off to enjoy themselves.

Or maybe Brian "the fundamentals are sound" Cowen? Someone who presided over a building boom to the extent that 25% of the economy was based on construction. Someone who 3 months before all deposits were guaranteed by the state, stood on the floor of the New York stock exchange and while being interviewed by an American news network proclaimed how well capitalised the banks were.

Then there's also the widely publicised cosy relationship between Fianna Fail, property developers and the banks, for example the tents at the Galway races.

Just a few examples. Fianna Fail doesn't instill me with any confidence. There have been far too many mistakes. And the cynic in me believes that these weren't merely just mistakes. Look out for your short term goals, look after your friends, and everything will be rosy. That's the FF mantra. FG deserve a chance. They couldn't be worse than FF, that's for sure.

Of course there is peasants. Peasants have nothing to do with living in a Republic. You'll be telling me there's no working class next.

As a Fianna Fáil member I see nothing wrong with admiring the Cameron style of politics. There are positives to be taken from it.

I'm not sure how it's done in Galway, but down here in Limerick I tend to fight based on the realities of a situation and not by putting down Enda Kenny.

The less said about him the better. Leave him where he is, for he is Fianna Fáil's electoral trump card. The people don't need to see insults thrown at him to cop on to that, in fact insulting him is only likely to gain FG sympathy votes.

I have to assume that the OP is actually a Fine Gael supporter in disguise because all he seems to do is make them look better and more credible with every post.

Keep up the good work sir :D

You referred to Kenny as the 'Mayo peasant'. The man earns over €100000 a year. How could you seriously call him a peasant? Unless of course you are just taking a needless swipe at Mayo or at people who live in rural parts of the country.

Nobody uses the word 'peasants' to describe a class in this day and age. Go back to your land league books and dún do bheal

Funnily enough, i can see FF using it..

If the OP is representative of the kind of intelligence that is currently knocking about NUIG and FF then god help both.

I'd be embarrassed to have any association to FF at the moment- they've been in power for 20 of the last 22 years so the current status quo in Ireland has their mucky slimy fingerprints all over it. Enough said.

    Here is a thought:

Why not compare Fianna Fail's policies and what they have to offer
    - with Fine Gael's policies and Labour's policies and who ever else's policies, and what they have to offer?

There is nothing to be gained by insulting people from Mayo, or Offaly.
If we want a better government, then we have to assess the policies of every party on offer, including those of the party we each individually support.

For the record, being 'a peasant' or being 'from Mayo' wouldn't deter me in the slightest, Napoleon was initially considered by the French to be 'a peasant' and ' Corsican, not even French'.

It's a bit like slagging off Barrack Obama, just because he is dark skinned.

FG should dump Kenny as leader though, the OP is right about that. If FG can manage to dump him and replace him with someone dynamic, they have the next election in the bag. With Kenny at the helm it will be harder, but I don't believe for a second that he would actually be a worse Taoiseach than either this spineless one we have at the helm at the minute or the dithering, blithering idiot that was responsible for benchmarking before him.

FG will almost win the next election by default. They just need to make sure they don't commit any major gaffes between now and then. Personally though I would prefer to see Richard Bruton running the country.

This thread isn't going to go anywhere but down and that's rather saying something. As the duty of a thread starter is to give birth to a useful discussion, this thread, which put bluntly rates as highly on the idiot scale as any of those "bertie is a wanker" threads, which were also locked with a wagging finger, is never going to do that. Kudos for those of you who actually tried to make a rational thread out of it though, on a judgement day you'd be in the same cable car as biblical Job.

This is the forum where you try to make meaningful contributions where possible - OP, you've already been requested to stop wasting the universe's electrons. If that continues, I'll end up having to save you from yourself here with a mandatory timeout as this isn't the idiotic bumpkin comedy soapbox forum, nor is it the forum where you post just to get a reaction. Your call. I don't care what anyone's views are as long as they're presented in a non-trolling, non-abusive and non-idiotic manner.

Aside, my parents, who weren't particularly well off, bought a colour TV in 1974, a before Kenny was elected and I have little doubt that people outside Cork, in places like Mayo and Laois/Offaly, did likewise. They were still using it when they got a replacement in 1992. As the son of a former TD elected on the death of his father, Kenny's background and that of Cowen aren't dissimilar as the latter was elected in the same circumstances. Also Mayo and Offaly are as much "a bog" as each other and both were even more so when both were first elected. The David Cameron line might actually belong as a minor part of a coherent non-idiotic thread if it was presented in a coherent way. The universe can only hope.

Locked per the above reasoning. One useful post is better than ten non-useful ones.
