If you can work that effectively, but usually don't, well than that it theft in my opinion. Maybe I'm just from a different generation

It was a great Sunday Independent today. They finally got rid of that loon Gene Kerrigan and put in someone sensible to replace him.

The sunday independant is to the irish pubic service what fox news is to the democrats in the US.

It says in the article they are only required to process 25 applications in the shift. Why would anyone do more work than they are paid to? I don't see what the problem is here. Productivity was increased for no cost.

Because if you have the ability to be more productive within the time you spend at work, you should do it. I take it the 25 applications in a shift was the level set to allow for the slowest person there to achieve their target

But is this attitude part of the problem? How would you feel after queuing for whatever, and the hatch/counter closes because the worker has done his quota? I have worked in numerous admin and clerical jobs and the only one ever with a quota, was a minimum, when I worked in a Call Centre. One had to take a certain number of calls per hour/shift. But once you attained that, you could not just head off home.
