Counselling needed

Thanks to anyone who reads this.
Basically i have some issues, I don't want to label it as depression as I'm really not sure. I'm just very unhappy all the time, I cry myself to sleep a lot. I believe that I am a bad person and I only have friends because they are just being nice to me and don't like me in reality. I self harm and consider suicide daily. It seems like a logical thing in my mind to deal with the unhappiness I feel. I've felt like this for as long as I can remember.

I really feel like I can't handle this by myself anymore and would like to see a counsellor or something. The only problem is I'm seventeen with no income. I have some money which I could use to pay for one but not loads. I really can't tell my family how I feel. I also don't live in Dublin where a lot of services are. Would anyone have any advice?
I really appreciate anything anyone has to say and sorry if my post was a bit long :)

We all make mistakes. That means we have made a mistake or done a wrong / bad thing. The thing is bad, the people aren't.

I think you should really talk to your GP as they are they best person to talk to.

There are low cost options - school / college counsellor, AWARE or the Samaritans (you don't have to be suicidal to talk to them) who can provide low cost or free counselling.

I really can't tell my family how I feel.
While you may not be up to explaining everything, having a chat with someone is really useful - no need to bottle things up.

Why can't you speak to your family? I would hate to think of my daughter feeling as you do and thinking she couldn't talk to me. If they are the issue, is there no aunties or cousins that you could speak to? Any teachers or school counsellors? Call one of the numbers above that Victor has provided if you need to talk to someone.

Definitely make an appointment with your doctor and tell them how you feel, they will know of any local services you could avail of. Hang in there, I know it's clichéd but things will turn around, life is really tough at 17.

    Best of luck. :)

    Hi OP,

I would really recommend counselling, in the past it has really helped me. If you are looking for someone to give you answers you won't get them from a counseller. They ask the right questions and help you to uncover things but ultimately it's down to you to peel back the layers and find out what the issue it. I worked really hard at it and felt accomplished when I finished and to this day conselling still benefits me.

If you have a friend/family member who is a member of VHI, if EAP is ncluded in the package they you can avail of six free sessions. Six sessions will definately help you.

    Best of luck.
