In whats the towns second stabbing problem in two weeks, a 17 year old came out of bar in Lawrence street and proceeded to stab innocent 7 people on the street.
2 are now in a critical condition. The 17 year old was arrested.
    http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/0410/drogheda.html

Question for the forum: Should body searches/pat downs by security at doors become a basic requirement for some places?

pub should be heavyly fined for serving him drink in the first place and yea i think body searchers should be introduced they have them in certain places in dublin and galway so why not elsewhere.

Well done, you've successfully managed to post the two dumbest, dullest clichés in quick succession.

Good to see the bar is still at it's traditional low.

Fairly sure he wasn't in the pub the original group of lads that got attacked were in. Whether he just came out of another pub or just a scumbag wandering along, I dunno.

Best wishes to all the guys in hospital.

Possession of a knive should be a serious offence, one with a serious consequence. Like Prison.

Because that type of security is a load of bollocks?

Something bad might happen when you go outside. Deal with it.

How did he even get into the pub?Are there no Bouncers in Drogheda or are the licensing laws different there to the rest of the country?

Yes, Drogheda is the only town in the country that allows in 17 year olds.

(Does anyone think the above is really true!)

if they get searched going in at least if they are carrying they have nothing inside yea ok thats not to stop slashing someone with a bottle but if they get found with a knife they get told to fcuk off and have nothing on them.

deal with it?? why should ppl have to deal with it they go out to enjoy themselves they shouldnt have to deal with some little chav that cant handle his p1ss stick a blade into them.

I know this is a bit of a selfish thing to say,
but I hope I don't know any of them.

Hope everything turns out ok for them.

Knives are becoming far too common place now.
Think we might be developing the same sort of knife culture they have in England.

7? Really? It seems like it was a big group he attacked, so you'd think he could've been stopped by the time he'd stabbed 2 or 3 people.

Sure just a week or so ago a woman was stabbed in the face in Drogheda. Now Im really glad I didnt go out last night! Maybe its just me but whenever I go out in Drogheda there is always a really angry vibe, but I guess the same can be said for every town these days.

Scum like him should be named and shamed, even though he is 17.

Why? He was't inside a premises he was on the street. He could have done the same had he never gone into the bar and been patted down.

Why was a 17yo allowed into a bar anyway. Was he served drink?

Do we really want to give the knuckle draggers* on the doors more power than they already have?

    *Not all but many are.

In fairness I dont want some bloke feeling me up whenever I go into a bar/club whatever. That would just lead to fights, could you imagine? A loada half sloshed people trying to get in to a club, having to get patted down first? It wouldn't work.

It will be getting worse and worse, as long as the ordinary people will allow this to happen. I've lost my faith in governments of any kind, from what I see they strive to make Europe full of chaos and lawlessness. "Good" doesn't mean good anymore, "bad" isn't bad nowadays. We have to, we should, we are expected. We have to be enlightened and modern EU citizens in XXI century. We should be showing understanding, be against death penalty and help poor children in Africa.

    Im sick of this sh1t.

Just heard on the radio that the group involved were aged between 16 and 30.

One 16 year old has been transferred to the Mater in Dublin and is in critical condition.

    Scumbag.

Should the licencing laws be changed so that more places over a certain number maybe have these installed and staffed?

    http://www.tradeeasy.com/supplier/617826/products/p1087825/walkthrough-metal-detector.html

All it would take was one bouncer standing beside it to ensure no possible soone drunk (or not) nutters come in, get argumentative and take their vengence out on innocent people?

Just a question thrown out there.

It was almost a month ago the woman was stabbed, and she wasn't stabbed in the face!

Hope all the boys who were injured are alright.

Its getting scary now how many stabbings are taking place on the streets, not just Drogheda, but everywhere....

I don't know why people are expecting the bouncers to sort this kind of thing out. The scumbag could have gone into the pub sober, had a few pints ( and maybe some other substances ) in the pub and then armed with booze induced ' courage ' went on his stabbing spree.

Good chance thats what exactly happened. At least when he came out, he would have been knife-less.

If your going to operate a place that supplies substances that can alter peoples personalities and/or acts as a catalyst to increase one side of a personality, the question arises within the legal confines of "legal duty of care" alone, should more be done now more to?

After all we have the technology to help improve things! Why not use it?

Look, how many people go into a pub for a drink, leave and don't go on a stabbing spree ? Literally millions in Ireland alone in a single week. Now as unfortunate as this incicdent was in Drogheda last night, their's no point trying to make out that they should have airport type metal detectors and body searches by the bouncers on every pub in the country.

I'm not to be honest but the hand-held equipment also is there to find these weapons too.
Every place having a door frame detection system is unworkable and costly.
Being able to halt someone for a second (who they might think looks suspicious) though for a second or two while they are sweeped, might lessen later problems though, its just a thought.

In the cases where certain pubs (through the courts maybe) have been shown to be regular trouble spots for example, maybe the courts can ask for these devices to be used?
Just an idea thrown out there.

My sister was meant to go to Drogheda last night but decided not to at the last minute. Your man had an arguement on Lawrence street but actually ran down onto West street to stab random people. A few of my sister's friends were in the group that he attacked

The chances are the bouncers/gardai know the people who are likely to cause trouble.

I'm saying bad things happen. Draconian security that targets everyone isn't the right way to stop this stuff. It will just piss people off. Just give bouncers a bit more training. Don't take it out on the general population.

I think security should be based on intelligence not zero tolerance rules and screenings that target everyone and their granny.
