    Hi guys,

as anyone ever use the TL Audio - M4 24/16/32 desks?

If yes do you have any sound samples?

Basically I was thinking to buy the 32 channel version, I already use a TL Audio compressor and works perfectly especially if I use only as DI without engage the compressor, the only think it's
that I can hear that it colours the sound a little bit (that's good on Guit and Bass) not too sure about drums and vox.

If somebody used one of them can give me a feedback?

    Thanks

What sort of price is an M4 ?

An acquaintance who tried one had a one word review for me - 'rubbish'.
Not particularly insightful I agree but perhaps an indication.

    Why do you need/want 32 chans ?

Not the best feedback...but if you trust the guy maybe an indication.

I'm looking for a 32 channel studio desk, analog will be the best (if can act as DAW controller even better) the TL audio price it's £8995.00 ex VAT.

    I'm open to suggestion

    thanks

Audient Zen would be a better option. Less channels, but DAW control is there, as well as a nice looking master section...

Why 32 if you don't mind me asking ? What exactly is your goal?

To do a very unscientific sum £8995 divided by 32 is £281. What sort of quality would you expect from a single chan costing that ? Not much, I'd suggest.

That's not even allowing for a centre section or auxiliaries in the calculations .

Fitz'z suggestion is a good one from a sonics point of view, the Zen is very cool. Is 9k your budget ?

    Hi Paul,

I usually record metal bands and use say 15/20 Mic on the drumkit( I don't use them all in the mixing stage) so a 16 channel mixer it's out of discussion 24 can be cool, also I like that all the lads play togheter for keep the dynamic real so I always have 2 guitars and bass and vox on during the drum tracking.

That's why I was looking a 32/24 channel, my budget can go up to 15K, and I would like to buy new not used.

I know the thats not much as a budget that's why I was looking at TL Audio desk because I like their other products.

The Audient with preamp motorized fader and meter can go up that budget.

If you have other suggestion please fire up.

32 channels is a lot in terms of audio interfacing/AD conversion to get from the desk to disk. Have you factored that in?
15/20 mics seems excessive for a kit; kick, front of kick, snare top and bottom, 2 overheads, 2 room mics and hats is 9 mics - you usually recording 6+ toms?
    Yikes.

I'd look at a Toft board maybe?

    Hi fitz,

I use 4 OH 2 in the Glyn Johns fashion and two room mic, plus I put one on the kick beater for the attack , and bottom of the toms, plus one underneath the ride....as i said i don't use all of them.... I also use triggers on snare kick and toms.

Maybe I use 4 or maybe all of them......you never know.

For my band I use just 5 normally.

At the moment I have a 192I/O with an expansion card and PT HD2

    Another good point regarding i/o.

I'd be wary of the Toft too to be honest. A customer of mine has one and in my opinion, it's shoddily built and sounds ok, but nothing special.

If you were my customer I'd advise you invest in the highest quality console you can with the minimum number of chans you NEED.

My own view would be with a brand that is well represented in Ireland for the inevitable support needs. Stuff eventually breaks down, always.

It's easy, and perhaps desirable, to add, say, 8 input chans of outboard pres for when you do need extra - (maybe you already have a few chans knocking about already?)

Investing in the best quality at this stage, at the expense of a few extra chans (that by your own admission you might never use! ) will pay off in the long term.

    What you would suggest Paul?

Say I'm one of your customer what will be the best option for me?
