I've recently bought a new laptop and want to move my itunes library over to it from the old one. The itunes folder that I have been using is on an external hard disk so moving the actual songs over isn't the issue but how do I go about copying the library and playlists across?

Just move the whole iTunes folder over, open iTunes>Preferences>advanced, and point to your new location for your iTunes folder. That should do it.

I take it the files need to be added to the library on the new computer to be able to access them? When I point iTunes to the folder with the songs, nothing happens. Also, how do I get my playlists across. I'm basically trying to avoid a situation where the next time I sync my iPod that it has to copy over the whole library again as if it was the first time being synced.
