rainwater tank gauge + plumber needed

i've just moved into a house and we put in a rainwater tank. there is no gauge on the tank so i'm just wondering does anyone know if i can get one and retro fit it. i've tried google but most of them seem to be in oz.

also the switch to the mains when the tank runs dry isnt automated and so the system airlocks when the tank is empty. does anyone know a good plumber i could get to put in an automated system to switch to the mains.
most of the systems seem to come with this but not mine.

If i'd know that the system wasnt automated i wouldn't have let the tank run dry but having been assured that the mains would 'kick in' i've now got an airlocked rainwater system. i've filled the tank from the mains (half filled) to see if the pump will start to work again and so far it hasnt.
Can anyone recommend a plumber who knows something about rainwater systems as i really want to get this sorted out soon.

i know there are a lot of company's that put in rainwater systems but i'm not sure if one of them would be willing to come in and work off another system as the tanks are all slightly different.

    any advice would be great
    thanks

Tony cain of h2o-consult.com seems an approachable guy, have spoken to him before about installing a harvesting system, he's on twitter at: @H2OConsult

Why not just connect the mains to the tank, the same as every nonmal attic tank. You would need to bend the ballcock arm down or use a float switch so that the water only flowed when near empty, as opposed to when near full. Any plumber should be able to work something out.

the two tanks in the attic are linked i just have to find someone to work out how to retro fit the system that should have been put in at the start.
