Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell us whether or not its ok to register ones company name first before filling out the back to work enterprise form? Or... are we supposed to wait until our application is accepted and then register the Company name?

Your help would be much appreciated

Yes it is fine- I did it and there was no problem, they just say it is for new companies so that people who have been in business for a significant period of time do not try to take advantage

Ask them for finacial help with advertisinig- I got €1000

Hi Stephen, thanks for the advice on this one. I have been waiting a few weeks for them to contact me. Did you have to provide a business plan at the meeting? Thanks PT

Hi PT, I have not got that far yet, which is why I was asking if it was ok for me to register the company name before even filling out the form for it, I would imagine though that bringing your business plan would be a good idea, even if its not needed at least you'll have it there beside you.

Was it easy enough to get the advertising grant?? My boyfriend was recently approved for the back to work short term scheme. He spoke to someone in the local area partnership who told him it was highly unlikely that he would get it. He was looking for the grand against insurnace.

 Think positive bookkeeper09 always think positive, there is no room for negativity in the Entrepreneurial world. :D Glad your boyfriend doesnt listen to hear say, most people would hear that and usually not even bother applying, nothing worse than having people tell you negative things rather than being positive about it and giving some encouragment.

    Stephen,

I meet my partnership officer today about the STEA scheme and although I hadn't my business plan completely done he said I didn't need to wait to register the business name with the CRO. It will take a few weeks to get the certificate from them and you will need that to register for tax before the SW will process your application.

So if you're fairly confident your business plan will be accepted, I'd plough ahead.

(Note: I assume you meant business name not company name as these schemes are only for sole traders)

After doing some calculations tonight I have decided to hold off for the main BTWEA scheme as I'd be losing out on about €18k over the next 2.5 years if I go out on my own now.

Hello Sparly, are you familiar with the practicalities involved here? How much does it cost to register the business name, what is the formal process, and do you know where all of this takes place? Thanks.

It cost me €20 on the Companoes Registration Office's website (www.cro.ie)
took 10 minutes and I had all the details back from tehm inm two weeks

+ 1 to what Shambo said.

Also, before you register just do a quick search on the CRO to make sure no other company already has the name and also on http://www.irishdomains.com/domain-names-ireland to see if the website your going to use is available (if you are setting up a website).

How long does it take for them to get in contact with you once you have submitted the application?

I understand you need to be in receipt of an allowance for 1 year before you can be eligible...is it wise to apply in advance, by say 2 weeks, so that the are considering/have considered your application as you fall due, so to speak?

Finally, how would they feel about me making pre-emptive moves vis a vis suppliers and samples of their goods? Would they try and say I was already self-employed, or that the sole motivation for going back to work was not the scheme?

    Cheers!!
