FIAT Warranty

    Hi Folks
It is with interest I followed a thread on MHF re warranty cover. I Have a Burstner Aviano I purchased second hand from an owner in N Ireland last July '09. It was registered in NI in Sep '08. Yesterday, following a lube check and service (8500miles) in Dublin, I asked when the warranty was effective until and imagine my shock at being told it had expired in Mar '10!

Has anyone in Ireland had dealings with FIAT Ireland and will they extend the warranty to begin on date of first registration. Does FIAT Ireland also automatically increase the warranty by an extra year at end of year 2 as mentioned in another thread here.

I would appreciate your experiences. Shaysue

This has been an issue before (I know of cases in Germany) and not just with FIAT.

Basically what happens is that the chassis manufacturer sells the chassis to the motorhome manufacturer who then builds the conversion on top of it.

As far as the chassis manufacturerer is concerned, the warranty starts on date of sale to the motorhome company.
There have been cases of motorhomes built on old stock chassis that already were out of warranty when the motorhome was first registered.

Some motorhome companies have agreements with the chassis makers to start warranty on first registration of the finished product.

Really your case is with Buerstner, not with FIAT

I took delivery of my motor caravan new in July 2005 and being aware of the warranty timing issue I went to my local FIAT dealer when I got it home.
When he put the VIN into the FIAT database is showed that the warranty had been running since December 2004, when the chassis/cowl was delivered from FIAT to the builder.
On production of registration documents showing first registration as July 2005 he reset the warranty to run from that date without any problem.

Just to finish this tale. I contached FIAT Ireland and within 2 days had a reply confirming that the warranty had been reset to reflect a full 2 years from first registraion of the vehicle.Though I hope I don't need to use it is a relief to get such a prompt and positive response. Shaysue
