    HI Folks,
I am looking for information on the 4 wd system on a MF 390T. It stopped working only a few weeks ago. I checked the front axle and all was ok with that. I now have the transfer box taken off and this is also working but there is no power to the solenoid. I heard that power is engaged there the whole time and when you turn the 4wd on the power is turned off. so therefore if there is no power the 4wd should be working all the time but this is not happen with my 390T.

Does any one have any information they could impart to help me trouble shoot this. I am currently rewiring the switch to the solenoid to get power there but i have not completed this yet. any help would be appreciated.

I don't know any details of how the solenoid controls the front wheel drive system, but it'd probably be no harm to check that it's actually working first.
Disconnect the exiting wire to the solenoid and bring a 'hot' wire direct from the battery, and listen to hear it it clicks or not when wired up direct.
If it's not making any noises, I'd start by replacing (or freeing up) the solenoid. It may require a few gentle taps with a spanner or the like. Don't break it :D
If the solenoid is clicking when fed direct power but not when the selector switch is used, it looks like a wiring/switch problem. The switch may or may not work without the engine running though, so you may need to use a test bulb or meter to see if there's power getting to the end of the solenoid wire.

Try wiring it direct from the battery and take it for a spin to see if you have four wheel drive that way, at least that'll give a point to start from with either the wiring or the mechanicals.

    HI ,
The transfer box was working but when we stripped it down the cogs were all worn and a few were broken.
The solenoid had/has a faulty wire that kept kicking the power on and off wearing it down. Expensive stuff at €500 but at least it wasn't something in the back of it, where we would off had to split the tractor. I have/in the process of rewiring a new switch to the solenoid with a fuse along the way. Thanks for the help.
