    Hi all

I'm looking to hook my laptop up to my wireless broadband connection but really haven't a clue about the whole thing.

    Would anyone know:
    (i) what type of card I should get;
(ii) how much I can expect to pay for it; and
(iii) whether I can install it myself or have it done by a professional.

    Thanks in advance

    Billy

Firstly, if the laptop was bought in the last 5 years, it most likely has an inbuilt wireless card.

Secondly, who are you with for internet?

Are you looking to get your laptop connected via a wireless access point in your house, or a USB dongle that would allow you to connect to the internet from anywhere?

    Hi syco

It was bought about 4 years ago but I can't find anything relating to wireless internet in the Network Connections part of the Control Panel.

My internet is with Imagine. I had changed over from Eircom and I use a Netopia router.

I'm just looking to be able to connect from inside my house.

    Cheers

Depending on the model of your laptop, you may have:

    1. an internal mini-PCI slot. An internal wifi card will fit here. There may already be a wifi antenna

    2. external PCMCIA slots. PCMCIA (PCCard) wifi adapter fits here

    3. USB. USB wifi goes here !

You'll probably need appropriate drivers for any of these

Gimme the model number, and I'll see what I can find.
