Bought a mac about 5 months ago and very happy with it up untill today.

It was working fine earlier, up till about 8 this evening. Tried to turn it on again and it wouldn't turn on at all. It just stayed white and dsiplayed a folder with a question mark on it.

Booted from the install disc in order to repair or reinstall. It couldn't see the hard drive, which leads me to believe that the hdd is damaged in some fashion.

Problem is that I need to get it repaired as fast as possible as i'm in final year at the minute and need it for assignments.

What would be the fastest way to rectify this between getting apple to collect/using mactivate/using image supply systems/dectek.

Which are most trustworthy etc. as well?

    Any and all help/advice appreciated.

quickest way would be to buy the hard drive and change it yourself.
www.ifixit.com has good guides how to do that

    Thanks for the fast reply.

How certain can I be that it is the hdd if it's not showing up when i go to re install?

Also, how will that effect the warrenty if I need it in the future?

If it's not showing up in Disk Utility, pretty certain.

What is it, a Macbook? If so, the hard drive is user-replaceable, so it won't affect your warranty - provided you don't mess anything up. There are guides on the Apple site. It's fairly straight-forward on the current models thankfully.

But if you can manage without it for a day or so, I'd leave it into an Apple service provider. It's under warranty, so it shouldn't cost you.
