Malcolm McLaren Passes Away

So Malcolm McLaren is dead. A sad day for punk? There would be many who say he knew little about music, mismanaged the pistols, and accelerated the implosion of a band that could have achieved more. Its also probably fair to say that the pistols wouldn't have happened without him, and so punk would have been a very different thing. I'm thinking the British scene would have drawn more influence from the glam New York Dolls/CBGB scene.

No doubt John Lydon will be paying tribute within the hour by saying something rotten about him.

    Thoughts?

Yeah sad day, punk is long dead and now too the mind behind the scene. In fairness though Malcolm McClaren was a talented musician/singer, did a great homage album PARIS (jazz).

    RIP

Malcolm was the image - not the mind set.

    No loss.

    You mean it's not mainstream.
    Punk is very much alive.

Image? He moulded the Sex Pistols who in turn influenced generations of young kids and dozens of people to form bands, shame for your lack of knowledge.

So you can't pass a proper judgement on McClaren if you are anti Pistols, even more shame heaped on you!

    Go to the shame bin!

    I didn't say I was anti-pistols.

Shame about malcolm. He certainly deserves a lot of the credit for the late 70's revolution. Without him and the pistols it could all have gone in another direction, who knows...

    RIP.

I doubt very much there would have been anything like proper Punk (70s brand) without Malcom. Love him or hate him but you have to credit him with that much. He was a visionary and iconoclast who didn't give two flying fcuks for the rules and it's sad to see him gone.
