Sounds kind of fuzzy? PLEASE HELP SOMEBODY!!

Both the speakers and the headphones are fuzzy which tells me its to do with the computer not the equipment. Is there any way of getting rid of the fuzziness and making the sound clear like it used to be? It just started doing this today...
My computer is not new... couple years old. It's a Dell (Dimension 5100?).
Not sure what information I should be giving...
Any help would be much appreciated.:D

    What operating system? XP?

Has anything changed recently? IE have you installed any new hardware or software.

Has the sound deteriorated slowly over time or all of a sudden

Is there anything nearby that could be causing interference? IE Radio / mobile phone?? (unlikely)

Have you tried putting the speakers/headphones in another slot - there are usually slots at the front and back of the computer.

Have you tried reinstalling or updating drivers from the dell website

I suspect that either the sound card or its drivers are to blame.

Is it the internal soundcard on the motherboard or do you have a separate sound card ?

In general, you should put a separate soundcard in the PCI slot furthest away (from the other cards), to reduce the chance of interference.

Other possibilities are that you turned on the microphone.
    I'd try
    1) Set the volume of the "Microphone" and "Line In" controls to zero.
    2) Disable any "Microphone Boost" setting
    3) Aim to set any of the volume settings for the speakers in windows to no more 80% for best quality. Then just adjust the sound volume on your speakers to control the real volume.

  • I solved itself... Didn't touch it for a couple of days now it's fine.
    Sorry...:D
