saw the gardai chopper the other evening EC135 i think, it had its spot light on guiding the gardai to where ever the light was fixed on.

this got me thinking do all gardai cars have a transcevier in order to hear the chopper comms and if so i take it that they have a secure freq.

Fixed that for ya, and the Gardai Operate EC135T2's while the Air Corps Operate EC135P2's and yes they do have secure comms between them and the Gardai on the ground, they are flown and maintained by the IAC.

They sometimes use the light as a decoy to trick the law breakers...

Yes they have a secure radio to all Garda cars and stations in the country (tetra)

They can also transmit live video back to Garda Control in Harcourt Square.

i take it when there talking to the Dub ATC the freq is un secure as other acft would be tuned into the freq like app/clearance freq.

you can sometimes here them talking to dublin approach and basically they say the area they will be operating in and the alt they will be using. when they change area of ops they also call it in
