Fundraiser for all - World Record Attempt

On Saturday 12th June 2010 Derrynoose GAC, Co. Armagh, are hosting a world record attempt on the 12 hour 100 metre relay.

This record is currently held by Cavan GAA with 1,986 participants. Derrynoose GAC will be aiming for over 2,000 people to take part. This is a fundraiser with a difference.

The event is very simple - each person runs 100 metres, hands over the baton to the next person and so on. Each person can only run once.

All clubs (GAA, soccer, boxing, hockey, cricket, basketball etc...) , all ages (10 years and older), all physical abilities and from all religious / ethnic backgrounds are invited to take part. For clubs this is a great chance to raise funds on top of this already organised event.

All clubs, who register to take part, can send as many participants as they like. The entry fee per participant is £25/€25. If a club sends 20 people and those people raise £50/€50 per sheet that clubs keeps £25 for themselves whilst the participant arrives with £25 and takes part. So a club could make, in this instance, £500/€500 on the back of this event.

At the end of the event everyone who takes part will, all being well, be world record holders - something that many of us are not.

Derrynoose GAC is ensuring that the event is cross-community, encourages all clubs and all peoples from all walks of life to take part. So if you want to walk the 100 metres - no problem. Wear fancy dress - no problem. People in wheelchairs - no problem. Blind people - no problem. Getting married on the day - no problem. The event is registered with Guinness Book of World Records and we are good to go.

If anyone is interested in taking part its very simple to apply:
website: www.derrynoosegac.com - and click on the contact form
    Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Derrynoose-GAC-World-Record-Attempt/285261306694?ref=ts
    Twitter: twitter.com/derrynoose
Email: worldrecord12june@btinternet.com with your contact details
Text: Text the word RECORD followed by your name to 57856 (South of Ireland) or to 82010 from North of Ireland. Texts charged at standard rate.

We are waiting for confirmation of personalities etc.. who will be there - as soon as they are confirmed we will post.

Our nominated charity for this event is Action MS http://www.xiportal.com/actionms// where the charity will benefit from this event.

Ask yourself - would I like to be part of World Record Attempt, become a world record holder, and help my club to raise some funds. If yes then join us and come along. All clubs will be given a time when to arrive and roughly when they will be running so as to avoid people standing about all day waiting to take part. Of course if you want to simply turn up and wait you are very welcome.
