Putting bands together in Cork?

In general I don't see a ton of adverts for bands in Cork, at least in my sphere of interest. The only bands or musicians I would like to maybe be involved with, I don't feel I'm anywhere near skilled enough. I'm not a "bad" guitarist but my style is mostly fairly simple. For example I don't think I could really be in a metal band, though I would like to play in a band with some metal influence, heavy riffs etc.

I'm wondering where I can go in Cork in general to find musicians, get involved in the music scene. If I could make more friends with some degree of musical overlap it'd be a lot easier to set up a band since there's less expectations, and I'd get a better idea of who's out there and what I can do. Especially now that Plug'd is gone, the whole scene seems to be a bit dead.

As someone who's newly-moved to Cork I'd be interested in this info too :).

    Who or what is Plug'd?

Plug'd records on Washington street probably.

Not sure if it's even open anymore (I'm too poor to have a vinyl collection)

As regards finding inexperienced musicians, keep an eye on notice boards in music shops and maybe around UCC. Maybe try peoples republic aswell

    Welcome to Cork!

Plug'd was a shop on Washington street that sold CDs and Vinyl, it was the only independant music shop in Cork. It was where a lot of the music involved people used to come to pop in for a chat. Sadly it's gone now indefinitely. It's pretty sad that "Independant" stuff takes the biggest hit in a recession, mainstream culture in Ireland blows.

Cheers :). I found Fred Zeppelins (well a mate showed me where it was) so it's definitely an improvement on the last place I lived in terms of being able to go for a beer or two and have decent music playing.

You'd also like the Quad (near the Beamish brewery) - Decent music and tends to have a way better female to male ratio than Fred's.

    Oh and welcome to Corcaig
