At the mo I have a long term illness that directly affects my job, not working in general, just specifically what I do. I cant put up with the pain of going to work anymore and what I have wont be going away any time soon so could I leave on the grounds of being medically unfit for work? As in if I left would I have to wait months to be allowed on the dole because I quit? or is there something where if you leave on medical grounds you can get the dole a bit quicker ie if you were made redundant?

I would imagine that you could find out if you're eligible for incapacity benefit or disability allowance.

Sorry to hear your problems, I am nearly sure you are entitled to a disability entitlement of some type. The state benefits forum has some very tuned in Posters, maybe post a query there?
