    They also mention hot tubs. Just saying.....

    Whats the story with campervans at this, are they not allowed in or near the campsite/venue at all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,003 ✭✭✭catch--22

    Afraid not. The car park is a good 40 minute walk from the castle and you can't get any closer.

    Never been to CP before but am planning to go this year. But I have a question: after the main bands are finished, what time do the DJs etc play until? And do some food stalls stay open late as well? Just want to make sure the fun continues after hours. :p

    It does, dont you worry

    whats the age range at CP? my mam wants to go but she isnt sure if she's too old for it at 43. I've never been myself!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

    My guess would be majority are 25+. I'd say your mother will be fine at it.

    Whats the story with bringing beer in or buying it there?

    It says they sell cans, and the bars are reasonably priced but how reasonably priced?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,402 ✭✭✭nxbyveromdwjpg

    Cant remember the exact price but I dont think they are reasonably priced at all (for cans).. someone correct me if im wrong.

    Basically, sneak booze in.

    The official word last year was
    We can not allow any alcohol to be brought on site. The bars will be reasonable & cans can be bought in bulk.
    Don’t even try as it will get confiscated & dumped. This is due to our specific license & has been the way ever since 2006.
    We acknowledge the annoyance of this but our bars will have bargains so don’t worry.

    * Off license can price €3
    * Off license slabs €60
    * Draught beers,stout €4.50
    * Kopparberg Ciders €4.50
    * Shorts & mixers €6
    * Shots €5
    * Cocktails €7
    * Glass of Wine €4

    Full bars are open from 12pm to 10pm on Saturday & 10am to 10pm on Sunday.
    Off license open from 8pm to 10pm daily.

    On the day the actual price of pints was €5. Pre 8pm there were also slabs for 80 euro available. The website says they've a new bar partner this year so don't know if these will be similar this year or what. If you send them a mail a week or so before they'll probably get back to you with the prices.

    So is it easy to sneak drink in then? How do you do it?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

    Absolutely no way of doing it.. don't bother trying. Castlepalooza organisers if you are reading this you can probably save some staff by not employing people to check because no one is going to try it now that I've told them the score.

    Edit: Just to make it clear Lordgoat isn't entertaining this sort of discussion for events/the organisers do read these threads even if they don't comment so no one is going to reveal their secrets here.

    The idea of not bringing booze into a festival is ludicrous. Talk about a losing battle.

    Was at it 2 years ago. twas good craic. cans were €2 so didn't mind not being able to bring in drink.

    What's the atmosphere like in the campsites? Is it quiet enough, or does it keep going all night? I might be better off in off-site accommodation if it does...

    Quiet enough really. Its small too. Just pitch the tent away from the stages and you'll be grand if you want to sleep.

    Are cans really €2?? I've read numerous things about the price of drink and they all say it is €5 a can and not €3 as advertised. :confused:

    They had cans of kopperberg for €2 in 2008. prob more expensive now though.

    The pints are €5. Single cans were €3 ONLY After 8pm when the off license opened. They were more (but not €5) prior to that. Cheaper if you buy a slab. I was there in 2008 and I'm pretty sure the Kopparberg was €60 for a slab which would make it €2.50 a can.

    I won tickets today... never heard of anyone playing.. i was kinda hoping the atmosphere would be lively enough to enjoy free tickets... Im young like and just dont think this is for me?! id go if i thought the atmosphere would be good?!

    the atmosphere is great. this will be my fourth year in a row and i've never known any of the bands playing, apart from the first year when Sister Sledge were headline, i'd heard o them ;)
    it's not all about the music. the setting is class and adds a huge amount to it.
    I hope they improve the toilet situation this year, although it was immeasurably better last year than the year before.

    hey, this is a great event!
    this is my second year and it will never be the last!
    you will not be too old or too young.
    me and my friends are ranging in age from 19 to 23 and we had the best craic ever.
    if you like druged up teenagers dancing around you and giving an awkward grope this is not for you, look up Oxygen...:eek: this is legendary stuff.
    i never no the bands but my mate always knows them and tell us what to go to but everything we went to randomly or with his excellent taste was brilliant craic. the acts give there all!

    what i really want to know tho is if the slabs include the Kopparberg or some other cider.
    last year it was 80Eur i think for a slab of kopparberg, which is more expensive anyway so it didnt irritate too much. but on the website it says; "Any pricing that we announce here on our website will be available in the bars at that specific price."
    I like this!!! Bring it on!

    sorry for the rant but i cant get across my love for this fest in any fewer words! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

    My guess is the Kopparberg will be more expensive considering it is a euro more when bought separately but if you want to try print out the relevant pages and argue your case on the day you may get lucky.

    i may just do that actually. there is a big gang of us. could end up saving us all a lot of money! cheers!!! :D

    Is there many people going to this?
    I am thinking about going with my girlfriend as we heard good things about lasts years event, but think it could be half empty down there.
    The line up aint great plus
    Indiependance is on the same weekend and has cheaper tickets.
    Also the beer situation sounds a bit of a joke. 60 for a slab of Bravaria!!
    The fact you cant bring any alcohol to the event makes this a pricey weekend when everyone is looking to do things on the cheap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

    I reckon it will seem busy enough even if it doesn't sell out. Last year was the first time it really felt "full". Previous years it was definitely under capacity but it never felt deserted. It really is a tiny venue so it's hard to really feel empty.

    Last two years it has been if not sold out then pretty close. And without a 'big name' on the line up. Always get the feeling that people go one year and then return with their friends the next year.Word of mouth festival.

    If the sun shines next weekend.....you will want to be down here...trust me!

    is there a need for wellies,theres alot less people than other festivals so does the ground tend to be less mucky!

    I'm actually debating not going now cos of the drink stipulation. Load of me arse that really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭tradtshirt

    The alcohol ban is absolutely ridiculous.
    Fair enough to have no alcohol at the gigs where there are bars but the campsite should be fair game.
    The organiser’s excuse is “its because of the licence”, that’s rubbish. You legally don’t need a licence for BYO. Insurance is not an excuse either because, to the underwriters, its irrelevant whether the alcohol is brought in or purchased on site.

    This is plain and simple a money making exercise. Now I understand that this is a business, they need to turn a profit. But the prices quoted for cans constitute a 300% markup on cash and carry prices, never mind wholesale prices. That’s blatant profiteering.

    And to add isult to injury they expect us to overpay for piss.
    Bavaria is horrible piss, its not even German either. Koppaberg is also complete piss, even worse than Bulmers and that’s saying something.

    This will come back to bite the organisers in the arse. There is no appetite for this crap anymore in this country.
    I’m going cause I bought a ticket before they released the rules prices etc., but I won’t be back.

    Even though the drink restrictions annoy me too I can see where they are coming from with it.

    For anyone who hasn't been before it's a very small festival area (literally the grounds around the castle). They would need to close of the campsite at the woods at the back of the castle and search people going into the main venue like they do at all larger festivals to stop people bringing drink into the stages and ensure the money they get from the people who supply the bar services (and with a festival of this size that money is vital).

    Closing off the campsite would take away from the festival in some way I believe. It really has a great atmosphere which is it's main selling point to me over the years and it's not worth risking it. You'll end up with people just sitting in the campsite and not randomly roaming around the place like one big party!

    If this is your first year heading down hopefully you'll know what I mean by the end of it.

    just wondering if i have a 2 day camping ticket, can i travel back saturday night and get in ok on the sunday with that ticket.

    also, is it possible for 2 people to use the same ticket on the 2 different days

    finally, any idea if it easy to get back and forth from dublin - imagine it would be ok sat morning and sun night but are there many buses put on on the sat night or sunday morning.

    thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

    No problem leaving the site on the Saturday night and coming back on the Sunday. You get given a wristband at the entrance to the castle grounds so just don't take it off. You won't be able to transfer it to someone else as a result though.

    I don't believe any extra buses are "put on". It is just the standard public transport that is available. I've gotten the train without a problem in the past. The only thing is that it is a bank hollier and the trains/buses servicing Tullamore usually serve a good few other places so they could potentially be full at certain times.
    is there a need for wellies,theres alot less people than other festivals so does the ground tend to be less mucky!

    You can probably get away with it. A couple of the parts got muddy when it rained but at worst it willl be a bit slippy not the shin high liquid mud of Punchestown.

    Hi guys,

    My first time this year so a few questions.

    While I know BYO alcohol is a strict no-no, how about bottles of water, soft drinks, etc? I'd prefer to bring my own Lidl six pack of water rather than paying a food stall for one.

    How full does the campsite get? Is it like Oxegen, EP or Glasto where all the tents are right on top of each other? I may not get down there till the evening time and I have a nice sized 4 man tent. Will I struggle to find some free tent space?

    No problem with bottle water etc. And food/snacks.

    Campsite is in the wooded area behind the castle. You can camp amongst the trees or in the open grass spaces. It does fill up but not hugely over crowded. If you arrive late you'll get your text up without a problem but will have to settle for the edges of the camping area.

    Anyone ever played Castlepalooza? I'll be playing this weekend and what to know if the drink situation is any different for artists. Seems ridiculous to make artists buy €5 pints from the bar...

    might be an idea to ask the promoter rather than Boards people?

    I'm sure Cillian etc will hook you up with something. We got a crate or 2 of beer at the very least the last time we played, the year before that was great, they had fridges going in the band area - but they've scaled than down a fair bit unfortunately. Saying that...I haven't a clue what they're doing this year...ask them!

    Hi. Just wondering does anyone know can you bring in your own non-alcoholic beer? I'm off drink at the mo, but enjoy a few Erdinger N/A. Can't stand Becks N/A though; if they have anything N/A it's usually that and I won't drink it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭Speculator

    I was given 2 free couples treat tickets, have never been to this festival before. Myself and the girlfriend will be heading down on Saturday. Looking forward to it!

    How does this compare to the atmosphere of the Electric Picnic?

    Anybody know what the couples camping area is like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭travist

    another question, I'm bringing a large tent and wonder if I'll have to walk far with it from car to campsite?

    seems like there's lots of restrictions, can't do this, can't do that, etc,

    I'm sure there will be glass restrictions so bottles of any sort are probably out. You might get away with cans. I've brought in other non alcoholic stuff in the past without a problem but I could also see how they may not allow it in for "appearances sake".

    It is on a completely different scale to EP but if you like EP you'll probably have a good time at Castlepalooza.
    Couples camping area is pretty much the same as all the other areas just a tiny bit separated and elevated. You'll spot it as all the tents are identical so bring yourself something that you can add to make yours recognisable.

    The car park is in Tullamore town. To walk from it to the campsite is about 40 minutes. There is a shuttle bus but depending on the time you arrive you may be waiting a while for it. The walk is fairly nice though as long as its dry as the majority is the castle avenue.

    As for restrictions other than the no booze in the campsite it is all standard festival fare from what I've experienced.

    Two questions above:
    A.) I'm pretty sure it is Kopparberg only.
    B.) I would say 1pmish maybe? At the worst the opening party (which will be belly dancers I bet) will be midday.
