Can you do an Ironman without training

So I never really got around to the training side of things but I did get my slot and I'm wondering is training really required to do an Ironman?
Obviously you need to not drown but assuming you can manage that does a healthy young enough bloke actually need to train to get around in less than 17 hours? Seems like a shame to waste an entry.

Forget training, it's dead easy, don't worry about it.

I hope to do 32 Ironman events in 32 counties in 32 days next year.

    No worries.

You'll probably be fresher if you save your training energy for the big day itself. Inflatable water wings will help with the not drowning part. Go for it.

Of course you could, if she was fit ;)

You will be sound, 10 weetabix, few Mars bars and a bottle or 2 of high energy drink.

Look at Happy Gilmore, he had no training.

As they say "You can do it"

A little dip in the sea, an ould spin on the bone shaker and a bit of a jog. Sure, it'd be no problem to ya!

    No bother.
I did it last year only used my left arm swimming, cycled on an old unicycle and ran backwards just to make it a bit more of a challenge.

Don't know what all the fuss is about it, only a bit of exercise

3:10 per 100m in the swim
    20kph on the bike
9:52 per km on the "run"

If you can't do that then you're probably dead.

A better question would be how fast can you go without training.

I would say its possible once you got out of the water alive, its a long way to swim in open water with "no training". Every so often these ridiculous threads crop up and there seems to be a view that this is a wind up, i have seen far more ludicrous ambitions, like the chap on the thread below who wanted to run a sub 5 minute mile from 6 months training on a pb of 7.33.

Also, not sure every ironman is 17 hours cut off time.

When you look at it like that.... those times will get you around in just under 17 hours I presume.

If I'm already dead then what the hell am I doing here in work?

ridiculous pompous rubbish. I couldn't do the swim distance and haven't been on a bike in years so probably couldn't do that either and I can assure you I'm very much alive
